Naming convention for video cover art?
What is the naming convention for video cover art?
My movies are organized as follow: Movies\ XYZ (2010)\ XYZ (2010).jpg Some video files.mkv Basically in each "Movie" folder, I have a "Movie.jpg" file that I want to use as cover art. The main movie have a different filename. This works with my WDTV Live, but is not working with Sage. Does the cover art jpg needs to have the same name as the video itself? What about DVD rips? Ie Movies\ Some DVD (2010)\ VIDEO_TS\ Blabla Where do I put the album art and with what name? Right now, it shows a blank logo, and after a few secs a frame from the video shows up as cover. Thanks!

Video thumbnail info is covered on pages 97 - 98 of the SageTV PDF manual. That should tell you what to name them & where to place the files.
Album thumbnails are covered on p. 86. - Andy

Wildgoose, for all video types the format is about the same; the folder art goes in the directory where the video files are located
For DVD the folder.jpg goes in the folder where the video files are located (video_ts for DVD). For mpeg's I put them in their own folder with a folder.jpg contained within.

Anybody have any success using symbolic links to store the actual cover art on a different drive (i.e SSD) than the video files? I have my video files saved over 3 drives, and waiting for the drives to spinup just to display the cover art seems less than optimal...

I think most people are using the batch metadata tool (BMT) which downloads it from the web.
If you look around at some of the older posts there was something where you can put them into a centralized folder. I had it set up that way for a while but my wife did not like the way it worked...it took more time to get the art. But I think it is now a bit faster. Another way to circumvent it would be to not let the drives spin down. Most are good for 30,000+ hours.

If you want your cover art in a separate location, I'd recommend looking at using Phoenix fanart (easily downloaded/populated with BMT), instead of the default folder.jpg's. It utilizes a central fanart folder structure for all content, and that could easily be placed on your SSD drive.
