How can this be?

How can the Avermedia Mediacenter app find 62 tunable channels and be able to tune and record any of them on WHS v1 but Sage 7 can't find any?

I'm using a Avermedia A188 HD Duet and I've set the broadcast type to QAM NET.

Clearly the card is able to tune QAM channels on WHS since the Avermedia Mediacenter app is doing it.

Any idea anyone?

One thing about that particular tuner is that Sage does not officially support it. I own one myself and found it easier to delegate OTA to it. I did get QAM working and I don't recall all the steps. If you dig around the forums you'll find a few threads talking about this tuner and getting it to play nice with QAM.

The gist of what I did was to use my HDHR channel lineup and create a new SCN or FRQ, can't recall which, based on the HDHR's findings. Named it accordingly and changed some Sage properties settings. My setup has since changed and now I don't use it for QAM.

Good luck to ya!

I was planning on getting this tuner for QAM tuning. Now, I'm not so sure.
I would like to see official support.

It can tune QAM just fine. It just isn't as easy, it's not hard either, just more steps and a little manual configuration. I mentioned using the HDHR to build the frq but that isn't necessary. You can still use Sage for the scan, it's just that I already had the perfect QAM lineup with my HDHR and was able to basically copy and paste that data into the new frq and I was done with it.

Here's a link that I found that I remember using to figure this out:

Even though it's a different tuner the basic steps still apply. I think there are a couple more threads about this too, I just couldnt track them down right away, if I find them I'll post them.

I have good news. I have this card tuning QAM on WHS v1. I know this didn't work before so maybe something has changed in the drivers or maybe I'm doing something different. I don't know.

What seemed to make the difference was adding QAM to the dshow_tv_type line in sage.properties. This isn't necessary when running under Windows 7 but without that it didn't find any channels in the scan.

I'm still doing more testing but for now I appear to have WHS v1 with a A188 and PVR-150 installed and all tuners working.

I'll update everyone if I find that something is not working right.
