2.0 V19 crtazy stuttering - unwatchable

Hey guys,

I just upgraded from RC3 and I now have a stuttering problem that makes it unwatchable. I've tried different codecs, and none seem to make a difference. PLaying back DVDs seems to work fine, but LiveTV or Recorded shows the stuttering is soooo bad...

Anyone else have this?

Davey

Is this on a client or on a server? I have problems still on the client from time to time, but I haven't upgraded to the release version yet.

sagetv installed on a single box, no clients connecting, all files are local.

Any changes on the sound side? Outside of Sage, I was having similar problems until I replaced my on-board sound with a sound card. I'm not saying that this is the same, but in my case I noticed the visual part of the problem more than the sound, but they're connected.

How about playback outside of Sage?

Have you turned all items in Sage to Default (DXVA in particular)?

Tried with 3D Acceleration on and off?

Do you use standby mode ofr power management? Or does this happen if you reboot and start sage as well?

Just thought of this.....whats your video orbit set to? On one of my systems (this was in beta, not sure if it still happens) if it was set above then I would get severe stutter.

choose another decoder with overlay do not use 3d acceleration
in some of the early betas it worked good and the later ones were not so hot with this setup

and only use 3d acceleration with VMR 9

I have used overlay with 3d acceleration on my m10000 without issue. Actually with it turned off, the menu items are screwy,

Hi,

I've tried setting everything back to default, tried 3d on and off, tried vmr9. I always use overlay, nothing else. I did some more testing, and it seems it only does this on one of my two PVR250s. The one that has svideo in and uses a USB-UIRT to change channels is fine. The one with the coax in and does the tuning stutters. I've tried minimizing sage, restarting sage, and rebooting the box, to no avail. I just tried removing this source, shutting down sage, and re-adding it, same thing.

falchulk my video orbit is set to 0.

Guess I'll have to back a version

What about Hauppauge drivers? This might be something you want to troubleshoot since it may be a configuration specific issue and may never go back to what it was.

Don't be afraid to use the official support request either.

well I don't get it. It went from really bad stuttering on the 2nd pvr card, to just showing a black screen, no video at all. So I restored my ghost image, installed v19 again, and still the pvr is just black and no audio either. This is a brand new card I just got from Dan, its has only been in the system 2 weeks and worked fine until I upgraded to V19. Has anyone had to exchange these cards with Dan? Are they fast at the turn-around time?

It's probably not the same thing. But last night on my laptop client, it was stuttering so bad that it was unwatchable. It was very regular, just like a slideshow -- same whether on livetv or recorded. Rebooted several times, still the same. It was fine when I first installed v19 client.

This morning, all is ok again. Strange.

Do those files play correctly outside Sage. With what you describe (one particular tuner/now no picture) it's sounding suspiciously like a HW problem.

yeah they do play fine outside of sage. Also, If I make the "bad" tuner busy and play recorded file back it plays fine. Must be the 2nd pvr-250. I'll have to contact Dan and see what they can do...

yup. but now it gets even stranger. The second tuner just did the same thing. I don't think this can be a hardware problem as this machine has run for months without issue with all the betas, install v19 today and both cards crater??

If the files are fine then it's most likely not an issue with the capture cards, but if it's not the cards then I'm at a loss.

Dumb question here......did you close sage, move sage.properties and delete the backup then restart?

falchulk yes I did. As an update, I did get the second tuner to work that I thought had cratered last night. It was drive space. When I reinstalled I just let sage make a new properties file, which defaulted to the C drive for storage. After 3 hours of TV last night the drive filled and that's why I lost the second tuner. So now I'm back to trying to figure out why one tuner doesn't work. Is there a way to test this tuner, outside of Sage? I tried the WinTV2000 application but I can't seem to get it to use the Tuner that won't work in Sage. It keeps using the other tuner that has Svideo in... I've done an uninstall of the "bad" card, reinstalled and replaced all drivers, decoder etc. However, it still shows up black screen in sage...

thanks all

davey
