Difficulty Placeshifting with New ISP
At one point about a year ago I had PS working with my DSL, but the upload speed wasn't sufficient. To attempt to fix that (and get much better service for a lower price) I changed ISPs to a WiMax provider. Now I can't get it to work at all, but I think it is in my configuration. My network lays out as follows:
ISP --> Wireless Base Station --> Router (DD-WRT) --> Managed Switch --> Server IPs as follows: XXXXXXX --> 192.168.10.130 --> 192.168.1.1 --> 192.168.1.y --> 192.168.1.z When I try to configure the PS server using UPnP it says the IP address is the 192.168.10.130 address. I believe that is my problem. I don't know how to work around it. My ISP swears they're not doing any filtering of any sort so I'm not sure what else to try. Any suggestions? |

If UPnP isn't working, try the manual router configuration option. It's been a while since I've done it, but Sage should prompt you with the port number to configure (or you can probably find it in the manual).
Once you have that set up, try connecting using your actual WAN IP instead of the Locator ID. If you don't know your true WAN IP, there are any number of websites that can display it for you. (Google "my IP".)

Maybe I should give the error message as I'm still having the problem after trying this.
When testing the error says that it connected to the IP, but could not access the server's port. I have no firewall running on the server or the router when performing the test. |

Does it connect when you try it internally, from another computer on your LAN, using your server's LAN IP?

Your ISP has NATed you. In other words you are behind a Nat router. You don't have a direct access to the the network. Your router can not be gotten to from the outside world.
The only option you may have is if your ISP will sell you a static IP address.

It works internally. Interestingly it gives the trial warning even though I entered 4 extender/ps keys today.
I do have a static ip from my ISP, but it is on the outside of my wimax station. |

192.168.10.130 is not a public IP address. Is this address given in the DD-WRT > Status > WAN > IP address? If it is then you don't have a public ip address.

The xxxxx at the beginning in that diagram is my public ip. I don't particularly want to post the actual address.

Your WIMAX base station is probably acting as a router. You need to set it up to bridge to your router. How you do this I will leave to you and your base station's documentation. You may have to attach a computer directly to it and then put the base station's IP address into your browser to get to it's setup pages.

Is there a reason you don't have the Router connected to your ISP and the wireless base connected to the router? And then plug the switch into the wireless base?

The base station is the "modem". Most new modems have a router built in.

I've never used a WiMAX setup, but any modem I've had that had routing ability also had bridging. Sometimes it takes talking to a level 2 (or 3) support person before they even understand the difference between bridging and routing, but once you get someone on the phone that has a clue they can usually point you in the right direction and give you any default passwords to get in and change it.
