Which time delay to use with a HD-PVR?

After a period of inactivly my HD-PVR does not tune the first channel input correctly. It misses the first digit that was inputed. IE, if I tune 741 Sage tunes to 41. After the first time it will tune all three digits correctly.

Now I seen delays, both in Sage settings and the IR blaster config settings. There are mutiply options. Which one would I use?

My system is WHS running Sage 7.

Thanks

Try using a "channel change prefix code"

In Setup->Setup Video Sources, select your source, then select its Tuner Control. On the resulting dialog, select Remote Control Options, then add a Channel Change Prefix Code. You might try using something that would be relatively harmless like an OK/Enter/Select; 0 might also work, but could cause problems depending on your tuner (e.g. it might interpret 0 741 as channel 074 instead of 741) so a simple OK/Enter/Select command might be best (or even a Play command?).

If you don't have OK/Enter/Select as a choice for the prefix code, you can select Learn New Command from the Tuner Control dialog, and teach Sage about that new button.

This will probably make channel changing in Sage a little slower because every channel change will need an extra button/digit, but it may make channel changing a little more reliable.

HTH.

This don't work.I have no commands in the "channel change prefix code" and I can't add any under "learn new command" Maybe the HD-PVR doesn't support this.

Any other ideas. Thanks

What kind of box are you trying to control? Is FireWire an option? It tends to be more reliable than IR.

Then you should have two firewire ports on the back which, hopefully, are active. If your mobo doesn't have a FireWire port you should be able to buy a card pretty cheaply. It is a bit more work to set up as you will need exemultituner.dll from these forums but there are a few other advantages, including the capability to control multiple cable boxes.

Thinking of old box, new box is SA 4240HDC. Also I am using WHS on a HP495 MediaServer so there is no firewire. Is there something like a USB to Firewire?

Hauppauge Blast Config

You need to use the Hauppauge Blast Config program to setup the HD-PVR blaster. Be sure you have the latest version -- my CD had a older version.

Testing is simpler with Arcsoft as the playback device (shutdown sage completely). Then with Blast Config, you can enter channel changes and observe results.
