PVR 250: Where to buy in Toronto area?

I'm not sure if you realize what a pain in the a## ordering online from Canada can be.

At least our dollar's a little better now. But once you factor in shipping and the exchange, it starts to add up.

But the real fun is when you receive an unsolicited invoice 2 months later from a customs broker taht acted "on your behalf" to import your goods.

Finally, we have this little thing called the GST in Canada that the customs broker tacks on.

Believe me: it adds up, and I'm looking for two tuners. My cost estimate:

$179 + $119 USD = $410 CDN for two tuners + software.

Shipping: $25 CDN
Customs/GST: $50 CDN

Total: $485.

Who knows, maybe I can find the WinTV cards for something like $149 CDN ea.

Besides, this doesn't even address my impulsive buyerness. ;^)

That said, I'm sure I'll end up doing it your way.

If you can't find it in the GTA, you can order it online at www.ncix.com which is a store here in Vancouver. They ship across Canada. This is where I bought mine.

That quote wants $199 CDN. I'm sure there's GST on top of that and then shipping and handling. My guess: $235 all included.

I just drove to OfficeMax in Buffalo and, true enough, the PVR 250 is on sale for $129 USD and has a $30 mail in rebate.

After the rebate, exchange, duty & GST at the border: $162.50 CDN.

I may be going back tommorow for a 2nd one, depending on how satified I am with SagetV.

Although somewhat expensive I have confirmed that Staples in Canada does carry the PVR 250 and PVR 350. However they do not stock them in the store. You have to special order them with one of the sales consultants. I went into a Staples store today and was quoted a price of $224CAD. Not a bargain by any means but for those not close to the border or who would like the ability to easily do return/exchange/warranty repair without the hassles of returning across the border or shipping it back to an online store, this is a viable option.
