Placeshifter vs vlc-player

Hi Guys,
i compared the output quality of an recorded mpg stream between placeshifter and vlc-player and i saw that vlc-player is much more clear. my testszenario as follow
i opened both programs in fullscreen with same timeslice and i switcht always with alt-tab between the both.

has anyone the same experience and how is the quality on the hd300 theater

When using the Placeshifter it will by default transcode the stream to give you the best quality/performance for the current network conditions, in other words, it's perfectly suited for connecting to your Sage server away from your home.

I'm not entirely sure what it's supposed to do by default when it is connected via the local LAN, however there is a setting called 'Playback media without transcoding (only recommended for LAN usage)', which as the name implies will not do any transcoding and will be a much fairer comparison with VLC player.

As for the HD300, I believe when connected via the local LAN it does not do any transcoding, so picture quality should be fine, I've certainly not got any complaints with my HD300.
