Avoiding Duplicate Recordings
In a nutshell, I am having trouble with duplicate airings being recorded for many TV shows.
When I setup Favorites for recording for many TV shows, I am usually setting them to record both first runs and reruns. My daughter is always hoping to catch a rerun of one of the many shows she enjoys that she does not have. I have the global setting to not record duplicates, and for the recording filename to contain both the series and episode name. Unfortunately, I spend a lot of time remoting into my server to delete duplicate recordings. They have the same series/episode naming however the airing ID is different. Is there any setting that I can use to have Sage look at the episode portion to determine if a recording already exists? Thanks in advance. Grant |

don't know if this will help you or not....
Detailed Setup -> Customize -> Detect repeat airings with non unique IDs ... No idea if that will help you because your problem seems to be different... same episode name but different IDs... but might be worth a shot

Was pretty sure I had that one set, and a check at home confirms it.
Guess I'm wondering what "additional" checks Sage uses to identify duplicates. I would assume that this would involve using the episode name, since it obviously is parsing it when creating the file? Is this a normal occurrence? Grant |

Might want to look at this FAQ:

Thanks for the link, however I have read that before. I am unsure on how that information is used as I haven't seen those before.
Here is a sample of two files recorded today: WizardsofWaverlyPlace-DisenchantedEvening-2320823-0.mpg WizardsofWaverlyPlace-DisenchantedEvening-2320824-0.mpg Should Sage not be able to discern between these two files? Grant |

Depends on the guide data, not the filenames. You have to look at the detailed info in the recording properties.

OK. I checked the recording details for the two files, and they appear to have the same ID. One recorded on the 3rd, and the other on the 4th.
WizardsofWaverlyPlace-DisenchantedEvening-2320823-0.mpg EP9630930005 WizardsofWaverlyPlace-DisenchantedEvening-2320824-0.mpg EP9630930005 Now I'm baffled lol.. Grant |

By any chance, do you have multiple Favorites that cover those airings? I'm not sure if it still does this, but it used to be possible to get multiple recordings of an airing if Favorites covered different channels or timeslots. Or, is someone setting up Manual Recordings for some of the shows?

Andy. That is more than likely the case here. There aren't multiple Favorites listed, however there are certainly multiple timeslots.
My daughter likes to "collect" her shows, and even though she has most of them, she is always waiting for one to record that she hasn't seen or doesn't have. For the most part, they would all be recording off the same channel (the two examples above are) but I am fairly confident that there is no filtering/restriction on the Favorites. Definitely not manual recordings. These shows are on all the time, so it is becoming a bit of a hassle to clean out multiple duplicates on a weekly basis lol.. Grant |
