Beta/Colossus/Arcsoft decoder issue

My problem is no matter how many times i change my decoder to "default" after playing every single video the decoder is set back to arcsoft, which takes over a minute to start playing a video. Default is one second to start a video. Its really annoying.

annoy else? how do i remove arcsoft, uninstall wintv?

Add video decoders with this line in the Sageproperty file
videoframe/additional_video_filters=ffdshow Video Decoder
using the decoder's "friendly name".

Then select the h264 filter you want to use with this line
videoframe/h264_video_decoder_filter=Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
or select it in sage's UI

I did that (selected it in the sage ui) about a doxen times today.

1. Choose "default"
2. Play video
3. Go back to setup, it's Arcsoft again.
4. Change to default
5. play video
6. go to setup, it's Arcsoft again.
repeat.

I think it has finally stuck.

default is letting availability or merit value do the selecting.

Well sure, i understand it is picking the decoder, But should it be modifying my setup value???????

Which decoder is being used when you have "default" selected? (You can enable logging and find the decoders used to build the last graph in the log file, or use FFSshow audio and see the system tray icon for a list of all decoders in use.)

Add that decoder to the list of decoders to show in the UI (see previous post above).

Then force that decoder to be used by selecting in UI or by sageproperty file edit (again see previous post).

Thats what i did this morning. set it to ffdshow. We will see if it sticks.

I've found that if the arcsoft codec is registered and you set sage to default the arcsoft codec takes over. Either selecting the codec you want directly in sage or unregistering the arcsoft codec and then selecting default should work. To unregister the codec go to start->run

Code:

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcSoft\TotalMedia Extreme\Codec\asvid.ax"

and replace the path with the path on your system.
To re-register it just take out the /u

Well just to follow up: Times to start playing a h264 file in sagetv

1. ArcSoft Codec - 3 minutes +
2. FFDSHOW - 30 seconds
3. DIVX h264 codec - instant

I assume you are not running windows 7 and so do not have Microsoft DTV-DVD video decoder available?

You might try the Arcsoft decoders which came with the HDPVR install CD, I remember thoses as working correctly.
