Lightbulb Sage Does Not REQUIRE Playon

It's an optional add on for increased functionality through Sage.

Was gone for a year

Spent last year remodeling. Just found this great addon by Evilpenguin.

Really nice interface. Easy Install!!!

Full content of PBS shows!
I think my wife will veto commercials on the network shows
SyFI 2 year old shows is lame
But the MTV Videos are super cool.
Be nice if they could add some Russain channels

Need to study this option more.

Google or Apple will buy or squash these Guys.

TV as we all knew it is going to change.

Playon Issue

My last message did not make sense so here is what I did.

Installed Playon Plugin by evilpenguin
Tried to acess content in Sage Playon and receive 'can not connect with Playon Server'.

Checked the Sage Forumn for hints to debug and verify that .cache file was present. Before posting log to forumn I followed evils reccomendation to check the FAQ which takes you to the Playon Website.

Playon provides software to allow a user to pipe internet video to remote media connected to yoour TV.

The Evilpenguin wrote a GUI interface to host all the menus in SageTV.

So I downloaded the 2 week free copy from Playon and setup the server on my PC and it worked first try.

So what did I do wrong?

The playon plugin does require playon to be installed. It doesn't matter which one you pick, but the more expensive version has more content available.

Thanks for the confirmation. I will do a 1 year subscription.
This is exactly the sort of thing I expect Google to dive into.

In case you missed it, they are currently offering a one-time lifetime subscription with a free wireless Roku box for $79.99. Lifetime subscriptions that they sometimes offer are usually that same price without the Roku. So if you buy the lifetime deal and then Sage goes away eventually, you could still get the PlayOn content through the Roku.

Sorry if I confused you. You asked what version of PlayOn Sage required. Sage does not require any and works fine without it.

However, if you want to use the PlayOn interface through Sage, then, yes, you do need PlayOn. Depending on the license purchased, you get more options available through the interface itself.

Good luck.

Playon Temporary File Location

How do I change the location where temporary PlayOn files are stored? I made the change when I first installed the plug-in, but I cannot seem to find the setting in Sage, Playon plug-in, PlayOn setup, properties files or registry. It is currently pointing to a folder in a hard disk that is starting to fail.

I think that may be something in Playon itself you need to change. I thought that info is on their forum.

Speaking of PlayOn, I am disappointed that they no longer have the March Madness plugin running. For the past few years they've offered the "March Madness on Demand" streams (which were all free), as an official plugin. Now that greedy Ted Turner made three out of every four games PPV, PlayOn apparently hasn't bothered. I'd have expected them to just add a spot in the plugins screen where you could put in your login and password (showing you'd paid the fee) and then have it all available. Bummer...

Check your facts, Ted Turner is one of the largest givers in the nation. Why do so many jump to conclusions that if a guy is rich he's greedy and somehow obtained the wealth in some illegal or immoral way? Turner has given BILLIONS away to charities, how much does he need to give before he's no longer "greedy"?

Greedy -- "Excessively desirous of acquiring or possessing, especially wishing to possess more than what one needs or deserves."

Having wealth doesn't make someone greedy... and on the same token, giving away wealth doesn't also mean that you are not greedy Greed has more to do with HOW one goes about acquiring wealth, and it has very little do with how they distribute it, once they have it.

I agree with that and I don't think he acquired his wealth in an unethical, illegal way, or "greedy" way. He worked hard, outsmarted the competition, and created a product people were willing to pay for. Nothing greedy about that. If "he" wants to charge people to watch basketball, that's his call.

Why is there no talk about how greedy Steve Jobs was? From the stories I've heard he was very tough on his employees, he made a boat load of money, and he didn't believe in charity so he gave very little away. Now, I'm not saying he WAS greedy, he had the right to do whatever he choose to do with his money, I'm just using that as an example.

I work with many high net worth people every day and none of them obtained their money doing anything illegal or immoral, they are not greedy. When the economy tanked many of them took money out of their own accounts and put it back into their business so they could make payroll. I'm involved with many charitable organizations and I'm always amazed about how much people give ot charities.

I'm just *really* tired of having anybody who managed to make good money made into a villian. We should aspire to be like some (not all) of these people, not drag them down and turn them into villians.

I'll get off my soapbox

Wow, Tom, didn't mean to strike a nerve - and I didn't say anything about Turner being unethical or whatever (the word "greedy" has nothing to do with that).

Of course Turner has the right to charge for game viewing if he desires. What bothers me is that CBS set a wonderfully-outreaching and generous precedent by giving away all the games free for about a decade (even in the days when streaming was so limited that they had to put you in a "waiting room" because their servers could only handle so many people viewing at once). Turner comes along, takes away three out of four games, and after one year of letting people enjoy the free streaming, suddenly starts charging for something that had been historically free. That ticks me off. If it had cost a few bucks from day one, I wouldn't have a gripe - I just hate when someone takes something that's historically been free and starts charging for it.

Actually, what ticks me off even more than that is the arrogant attitude I've seen from the Turner Network people (when quoted) in articles about them taking over three of the four games (last year) and about them now charging for them (this year). Say what you want about Ted, but his spokespeople come off as rich, arrogant, and completely condescending to, well, to use a trite phrase, "the 99%". Every article where I've seen them quoted, the very clear subtext of everything they say is: "the American public are our slaves, addicted to our product, and we'll charge whatever we want and you suckers have no choice but to pay us." In fact, it's barely "subtext"; they boldly and arrogantly say it.

Again, though, I don't have that much of a gripe. It's $3.99 for every game. I just threw that word "greedy" in there for fun. I didn't know Turner had such vehement defenders.

Now, in three years from now when it's $49.99 for each round, THEN I'll gripe more.

I probably over reacted as well I just think that if "John Q Public" keeps on beating up "the rich" we will all be worse off down the road.

One of my friends is a devout Socialist. As you can imagine we have some very interesting conversations

Full screen in Netflix stopped working last night

I have had no problems with Playon -- Amazon VOD, Hulu, or the channels that come with Playon -- using Sage plugin. But Netflix stopped displaying full screen last night. There was an update for Playon software today that did not solve the problem. I uninstalled Sage Playon plugin and reinstalled it but the problem remains. I can't, of course course, click on full screen icon I see on screen, as tempting as it is. Any ideas?
