O.K, so this is my problem, I have Sage set to record at DVD Standard and the only DVD burner I have available to me is on my iMac. When I transfer the file over to my iMac it won't play in either quicktime or windows media player for mac. I noticed the file extention is mpg not mpeg, could that be the reason? Am I correct in saying that DVD standard records in mpeg2? So why dosen't it play in quicktime on my iMac or the quicktime on my PC. So I can't do anything with the files when I get them on my Mac and am wondering if there is something I can do or am I going to have to by a DVD burner for my PC?
Thanks, wwright129 |

If you rename the file to.mpeg, does it play?

Yes, the files are mpeg-2 so you need to play them with DVD software. You also need DVD authoring software to turn mpeg-2 video files into the vob files that a DVD player can use.

I tried to rename it to mpeg but that didn't work. I Have DVD Studio Pro and that won't open the Sage files. Which is what prompted me to write this post. I've tried to open the files with iDVD also and that didn't work. If the files are mpeg-2 why do they have a file extention of mpg, not mpeg or mpeg2?

malore, actually that changed with long filenames. Think about sage.properties.

malore, actually that changed with long filenames. Think about sage.properties. Also, you can rename a mpg file in winows to .mpeg and it plays fine.

falchulk, but the .3 mindset is still there. How many file types do you see that regulary use more than a three letter extension? How many .jpeg files do you find? .java is about the only one I can think of.

Some apps dont recognize the longer format becasue they are not associated with that extension. Thats why I asked if he tried renaming it.

I see the confusion. I was answering the question "If the files are mpeg-2 why do they have a file extension of mpg, not mpeg or mpeg2?" I wasn't disagreeing with you suggestion that he rename .mpg to .mpeg.
Just in case it got lost this post talks about DVD burning on a mac. Last edited by malore; 05-21-2004 at 07:37 AM. |

Well what seems to work is recording in DVD format and then use mpg-vcr to get rid of the commercials and then run it through Movie Factory and save it as a VIDEO_TS folder and pull it over to my iMac and burn it onto a DVD. Thats what I wanted to do so there you have it.
Thanks to all for the input. wwright129 |
