Autodelete Recordings Weirdness

My recording drives are always full and I rely on autodelete to make space for new recordings. I have never had any issues with auto delete until last. For some reason, it auto deleted 2 favorite recordings that I had not watched from within the last week. However, there were 2 favorites recordings that were marked as watched that it did not delete first. In fact, there was an American Idol episode from Wednesday that was marked as watched. On Thursday night by 10pm it had already deleted the new American Idol episode while keeping the previous night's watched episode. As I said before, I have never had any issues with this. I have restarted the SageTV service and will keep an eye on this. Anyone have any suggestions on what might have gone wrong?

Sage is trying to tell you something about watching american idol.

Seriously though, I've had it do this to me a very long time ago. I got another recording drive so the issue hasn't come back. What are your auto delete settings?

I hear ya! Tell my wife that. All favorites are set to auto delete. I just thought it was particularly weird that it gave an older watched episode of the same series priority over a new unwatched episode.
Also, another strange story. The other favorite recording that was auto deleted was an unwatched episode of Parenthood from Tuesday night. Interestingly, this episode did not end up airing in our area because there was severe weather and the weather people were on instead. They rescheduled the episode to air on Saturday night in our area. SageTV was recording in that time slot on Tuesday, but is there some way that perhaps Sage 'learned' (from the EPG or otherwise) that the episode did not really air and decided to delete it? I think that is probably a stretch, but at least it's an interesting coincidence.

Is it possible that the watched episode of A.I. that it decided to keep had been marked as a Manual recording (who knows, maybe someone sat on the remote and did this accidentally)? If you press the "record" button on your remote when you have an episode of a favorite selected in one of Sage's screens, it gives you the option to mark that show as a Manual recording. Sage won't auto-delete a manual recording.

As for your other issue:

If you are using a digital tuner (like the HDHomerun), and there is no signal (due to a cable outage or something), Sage may detect that as a bad recording and throw it away. With Sage 7, it should also put some sort of warning message in the message center screen.

If there is a lineup change (for example, a Presidential speech that gets scheduled at the last minute) that doesn't show up in the EPG until after Sage has already recorded something, Sage will keep the recording. Example: You have a favorite scheduled for 8:00pm-8:30pm, so Sage tries to record it, but really records the President's speech. A few hours later, the EPG gets updated. Sage then changes the name on the recording to say "Presidential Speech" and it takes away the "Favorite" marker on that recording, so it looks like an "Intelligent" Recording in your recording list.

I have seen both of these situations happen at one time or another.

Funny that you mention that I had DELETE mapped to one of my remote keys... then I noticed some shows were being deleted. It was a problem with my wireless keyboard and mouse sending out signals... I got rid of the delete option in my remote and everything is fine. Also I sometimes accidentally hit the delete button... realized it too late.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think any of those things happened, but who knows. I will just keep an eye on it the next few weeks.
