Setting up upnp
Hi Folks,
I have Sage running on XP. I have just enabled upnp on my router (dd-wrt). Sage sees the upnp, but cannot configure it automatically. I think the problem is in the server IP address. I have two NIC cards in the machine. Both have static IP addresses. One is connected to the router with 192.168.1.190 (above the routers DHCP addresses), and the other is connected to a switch that has 3 HDHR's attached. The HDHR NIC is set to 169.254.10.10 as per the HDHR instructions for communication with the tuners. I noticed when trying to set up the upnp, that Sage says its server address is 169.254.10.10 instead of 192.168.1.190. I confirmed this in the System Information. Would this be why it is unable to auto config? If so, how can I get Sage to use the later address instead? Thanks for any assistance, Bobby Last edited by BobbyDing; 04-26-2011 at 11:21 PM. |

I found that if I stop the SageTV service, disable the NIC for the HDHR, then restart the service, Sage will come up with the 192.168.1.190 as its IP address. However, as soon as I re enable the HDHR NIC (even while Sage is running), Sage returns to using the wrong address
Any suggestions on how I might get Sage to ignore the HDHR NIC? Thanks Last edited by BobbyDing; 04-28-2011 at 10:44 AM. |

Make sure the NIC you want comes first in binding order. In XP you do this via Control Panel > Network Connections > Advanced > Advanced Settings > Adapters and Bindings. Not sure what the equivalent thing is in Vista or Win7.
To be honest, though, this seems like one more example of how having a seperate NIC for your HDHRs might be more trouble than it's worth. I run two dual-tuner HDHRs on my regular LAN switch without issues. With a good gigabit connection from the Sage server to the switch, there should be more than enough headroom.

Thanks so much That did the trick.
The HDHR's are separate from the main network because all three are OTA. I live in Florida, and having three big lightning rods on the roof connected directly into my network seemed like asking for trouble. I know nothing will stop lightning damage if it strikes close enough, but I figured having a few more obstacles for it to get through couldn't hurt. Thanks Again!! Bobby |
