Green and Black lines in recordings
Hey, I am starting a new thread because my other one got off topic with other issues that I finally have been able to solve. So--when I record a program in Sage and try to play it back in any other file player (WMP, Divx, Cyberlink, WinDVD) there is a fuzzy green stripe on the very bottom of the recording and a black stripe running vertically on the right hand side about a quarter of an inch in. I have tried intervideo and Cyberlink decoders but I get the same problems. I have also tried the files on other computers with the same results. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help- JUC |

I believe that's normal, it's part of the recording. You don't see it in Sage because it defaults to about 5% zoom (1.05) so the edges are cut off.

That's kind of strange. Does that mean I need to zoom in anytime I want to play a show in another program?? If so, that is a BAD feature. Anyone else? Actually I just remembered that the line running vertically on the right still has a quarter inch of picture to the right of it (it is not just the edge that is cut off).
Thanks- Juc |

How would I "zoom" in to 1.05 (5%) on say WMP?

Could you post a screenshot of what you are seeing (Printscreen when using VMR9 renderer)? What I'm thinking of might not be what you are seeing.

they are issues from either the source of braodcast or driver issues
anyways you do not see it normally so why care now you can use overlay zoom if you have an nvidia video card and since most application use overlay you will never see it |

sorry, but I am having trouble getting the screenshot. I enabled VMR9 renderer in Sage but the problem is in other players. when I hit ctrl printscreen nothing happens. I use an ATI AIW as my video card---am I out of luck on the overlay zoom? Your right, as of now I really don't notice it because I watch all of my shows in Sage, but if I want to record one to my laptop, or play it with another player i get the same lines (this is with all other players I have tried).
kny3twalker, you mentioned that most applications use overscan anyway so I wouldn't see it---then why am I seeing it when I open the file in WMP, DivX player...is there something I need to enable...I might just need to get myself a cheap nvidia card. Thanks for the help. |

no most player use overlay
the feature that the nvidia video cards have is overlay zoom overlay zoom is basically overscan but only when rendering with overlay look 5700 they are especially good at VMR9 also to get VMR9 you have to enable 3 d acceleration |

I watch all my recording at work on my laptop because I don't have time to watch them at home..... I use Windows Media Player 9 and the codec that seems to have worked the best for me was the Elecard codec.
I had WMP9 full install + the Kazaa SNTD Codec pack + Elecard MPEG2 codec and have been able to watch all my recording without issue. I'm sure by now you're frustrate with scenarios....I had a bit of trouble getting my movies to play because of codec issues in WMP9. The only downside to the Elecard codec is that it is a trial version unless I buy it. EDIT Incase you were curious about the laptop hardware...it had a UXGA screen and a 128MB nvidia 5650...latest drivers.

I am going to try the Elecard decoder to see if that works. I retried the files again in the different players after switching to VMR9 and then back to overlay and the black strip on the right side is mysteriousy gone--finally, but not sure why. Also, I noticed that the WinDVD player has the least amount of green line on the bottom out of all of them (note=i use the intervideo MPEG decoders so that is probably why). It is bearable though but hopefully the elecard decoder will remove it all. Thanks for all your help.

I didn't mess with any VM9 settings or overlay settings....just that setup on the laptop and the files played.

why would this change the way a file is presented?
the Kazaa SNTD Codec pack + Elecard MPEG2 codec either the file has some errors in it from the broadcast (which is not normally seen cause of overscan) or it does not not all channels have the same issues as well there maybe some rogue codec on his computer as well causing the green line but why would elecard and kazaa codec help? |

Hi all, I think I am just going to start with a fresh install of XP hoping its a driver conflict or something. My system hasn't been 'rock solid' lately anyway. Oh, and the black strip on the rigtht side started up again for no apparent reason when I restarted Sage. I'll let you know when I get around to it.
thanks for the help JUC

Codec packs are generally a bad thing to install, just stick with installing the individual codecs you need.
But, as I said above, those lines may be normal. |
