Unhappy SageTV 7 - Files & Folders keep disappearing

I have a problem that's driving me nuts and I hope someone here has the answer.

First my setup: Windows 7 32 bit, SageTV 7.1.9.256, STV 7.1.9.5, HD200.

The issue is that when I choose "Videos/Folders" in the SageTV menu it doesn't show everything.

I have three import folders setup:

1. C:\Users\UserID\Pictures\Pics For Sagetv (configured for pictures only)
2. E:\Music (configured for music only)
3. F:\Videos (configured for videos only)

The "Video Recording Directory" is set as F:\Videos.

Under F:\Videos there are both recorded shows and various AVI, MKV, MPG videos in that directory plus there are 22 subdirectories with other various videos.

When I look at "Videos/Folders" in the menu I only see the videos in that directory that I copied over from elsewhere. None of the subdirectories show and none of the recorded TV shows. I can however see the recorded TV shows under "TV/Recordings".

The only way I can see the subdirectories is to go to "Search" and browse the file system.

It wasn't always this way. When I first installed V7 everything worked fine. Sometime in the last couple weeks that changed.

Last night I removed all the import directories, did a rescan, re-established the import directories, and rescanned again. After that everything appeared as it should and I thought that was the end of it. Tonight however I'm back to not seeing the subdirectories.

It doesn't matter if I'm on the server or using the HD200, same issue.

Does anyone know why it's doing this?? I expect to see everything, even the recorded TV shows, when I look at "Videos/Folders". I could live with having to go to "TV/Recordings" for those but that's not how it worked before.

Hmmmmm....

What version of Sage are you coming from? One change I can think of that is affecting your usage model is that Sage started putting the metadata into the media files with v7, I believe. Prior to this change, no metadata. I believe its the existence of this metadata that is making Sage put the recorded TV shows in the "recorded TV" repository. However, I also remember an option that puts movies from recorded TV in both places, so that would fit your needs. I'm am not sure where that option, but I also remember it might be related to using the Diamond interface.

Good luck, and I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

You shouldn't have the TV Recording directory the same as the Video import dorectory. You're putting recordings and videos in the same place. The recording folder should not be the same as your video directory. Create a seperate recording directory, put it in the detailed setup and move your recordings from the video directory to the recording directory.

Thanks for the tip. I established a separate folder for TV recordings, moved the recordings there, and did a rescan. It appears to have solved the problem.

Hopefully it will stay fixed.

So, why does that make a difference?
