Firmware upgrades - will these die when the "mother ship" dies?

I recently acquired a few additional HD-200 and HD-300 extenders - these are meant to be backups in case my existing extenders die. Should I ensure that I connect these and upgrade to the latest firmware? I am operating under the assumption that once the one year anniversary of "Black Saturday" occurs that the firmware server may die? This date would be June 18, 2012.

I guess there may be a way to upgrade the firmware from USB but that isn't as plug'n'play as the online firmware upgrade.

I would think you would want to verify them and make sure they work anyway when you receive them. While you're doing that get them to the same firmware you're running now on your other extenders.

I also keep copies of my favorite .ver and .bin files in a folder that I back up routinely..... just in case.

Regardless of what may or may not happen six months from now, what do you gain by postponing firmware updates? Why not just do it now anyway?

When I recieved my "backup" hd300's and HD200's, I did the factory reset on them, upgraded the firmware and copied the property files from the units I'm using to the units I have as backup.

It did not take long and if a unit fails on me, it will take only a minute to replace it.

Since the subject is latest firmware.... I remember accessing a download page back in June/July that had all the extender firmware downloads (latest and older versions). For some reason (probably me) I cannot find that page again. Can anybody supply a link?

Thanks,

Bobby
