Channels appear blurry

Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone could help me out. I have been trying to setup sagetv2 but have issues where almost every channel appears blurry (like when you try to access a channel you don't have). I have a pvr-250 hooked directly to the cable.

For setup, I selected to use the internal tuner. I have Comcast digital cable in Boston, and selected "Comcast Digital" and "extended basic service" in the wizard. Now when in livetv, I get these blurry channels.

I tried rescanning the channels but with no luck. Using the wintv app, it only recognizes channels 5 & 6.

Any help would be wonderful, thanks!

When you setup your card did you chose "tuner cable" as opposed to "tuner antenna"?

What is your default recording quality?

THanks for such a quick reply! I did choose the cable tuner and my recording quality is great, 2gb.

The input type is tv tuner.

I noticed that you have digital, does that work properly when going directly to your TV? I thought that required use of a decoder box.

Well, in the setup wizard, if I choose "basic service" instead of "extended basic" I get unblurry channels. Unfortunately, it won't show all of the channels that I have, including some in the 60's and 70's.

I hope this helps!

why not use RCA or svideo to connect to your Cable box then choose svideo or composite input and set it up like that
picture quality should be mush better and raise your recording quality

But then won't he need some sort of additional hardware to be able to control the channel on the external tuner?

Yes, but if any channels require the converter box, there may not be a choice.

Thanks so much for everyone's help.

Using the digital cable box, I get the additional channels. So I guess with digital cable, I can't get above channel 54ish with the internal tuner of the pvr 250?

I am trying to get multi-tuners working. While still having some issues getting sagetv to recognize the second card, it seems that I can have one control the digital box and see all channels, and have the second use the internal tuner and see up to 54.

Please let me know if i'm mistaken or if there are any other suggestions. Thanks again!

That looks right to me.

There is also a way to have your first card use the cable input for all the lower channels that don't require the converter & then use the svideo/rca input for the higher channels from the box. That doesn't give you an 'extra' tuner, it just allows the lower channels to change more quickly if the box takes longer for channel changes. But, you might want to just get the basics working first.
