Upgrading internet: UVerse or XFinity?
All this Netflix & Hulu Plus has me needing to upgrade my current 6Mbps DSL internet service. If you take cost off the table (I can figure that out, but I need time to wade through the myriad of options & offers), what would you think?
Note: I only do OTA, this will NOT be used for TV. Unless GoogSage... Last edited by IVB; 08-12-2012 at 08:32 PM. |

Comcast Business Class (don't know if they call it XFinity). No caps. And it doesn't cast much more.

I've had it for about 4 years now. It has been great. As much as I dislike them as a company, they have been rock solid since day one. Of course, my love for AT&T is even less.

Definetly the lesser of 2 evils. You will get nowhere with AT&T and well, atleast you know what your going to get with Comcast. |

U-verse is decent, but I've heard way too many of my friends complain that they don't get their advertised speeds. Comcast may be cable, but it's better than u-verse AFAIK.

Comcast has a deal for XFinity - 20Mbps (PowerBoost)/15Mbps (after powerboost) for $30/month for 6 months, $45/month after that with no contract in my area, so i'll try that. There's a 250GB/month bandwidth limit. Biz Class is $70/month. Hence, i'm going to try out XFinity, and if I hit the limits I can just move over to biz class or some other option in 2-3 months.

They probably won't enforce the 250 cap for a little while.

This is the note I got on my Comcast Account
Note: enforcement of the 250GB data consumption threshold is currently suspended.

BTW, we moved a year ago. Before moving, we had 10/1 service from Time Warner business class. They were great, they rolled a truck on a Sunday morning when my neighbor clipped my cable line when gardening. Total outage was ~1 hour. No caps (at least in our area). We paid $40/mo (deal through my wife's former employer). When we moved, our only choice was Comcast. No DSL. No U-Verse. Nothing but Comcast. We signed up for something with a silly name that was 25/5, and we've nearly always gotten the advertised bandwidth. The price recently increased from the introductory $39/mo to $59/mo. But they also doubled our bandwidth to 50/10. Working from home, a 10Mb/s uplink is very nice to have. Drew

Holy crap! Either the wife or I work from home 2 days/week, a 10Mbps uplink would be awesome. I currently only get ~500Kbps, reduces me to tears at times.

That's what happens when you cut the cord. Data usage is going to go WAY up (as you have obviously noticed). Hopefully comcast works out for you.
