Converting File Format to DVD
OK, not sure if this is the proper forum for this, but I want to convert the files recorded by Sage to something that I can burn onto a DVD.
I am a "newbie" and don't know too much about this stuff, so here goes...I have Sonic MyDVD which came with my burner and tried to use it to do a conversion...which it did, in "real time", and took hours and hours... Is this just how long it takes or is there a better way? Thanks! Rob |

The easiest way is to simply record the Sage TV files using a DVD compatible profile to begin with.
Then, unless you are changing bitrate of the video when you make your DVD, you can just cut commercials are record without re-rendering the file. Only certain programs can edit without re-rendering though, so you would need to check your editing program. For instance, Ulead Movie Factory 3 can do this, if I remember correctly. And a number of others. Some programs call the feature 'smart render', some have other names for it. I hope that starts pointing you in the right direction! Jason Bottjen |

Rob,
I record tons of programs from my SageTV setups (have two of them) to DVD-Rs. Like Jason said, as long as you select one of the DVD compliant bitrates, you'll be fine. I use MPEG2VCR to edit out the commercials. It works like a champ, and doesn't need to re-encode. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author (primarily) to build DVDs from my MPEG2 files. It lets you build nice motion menus, and is very quick to build the output. It can also burn the dvd-r directly, so no need to go to an external app. like Nero or RecordNow when your project is built. DVD Author also has a cut/trim option, but I've found it's too crude and slow to use. So I edit the file before I bring it in for authoring. Email me or PM is you need more specific details. Kevin |
