What more do you need it to do? It connects to the server, and plays the audio sent to it...

I had one running for almost two years on an old Androide phone. Worked like a charm, did everything a duet could. Only missing the graphical remote.

I think maybe he meant that it's not a real Squeezebox client. It still requires a completely separate app just for simple local playback.

These android phones I have (Droid 1's) are hidden - so the UI doesn't matter. Though I do have the logitech android app installed on each, plus all of our tablets/phones to control the system if we so desire.

I'm using a Raspberry Pi as a squeezebox server in my car these days, ethernet to a Logitech Touch with usb out to a Meridian Explorer DAC.

My next effort/plan will be to replace the logitech touch with a client also running on the RPi, using USB out of the RPi to the Meridian DAC.

Nope, I don't really care that it's not an official client. Squeezeplayer sometimes gives me playback problems with flac files.

success..............my Raspberry Pi now runs my squeezebox server AND runs the Squeezelite client with USB out for music

Has any figured out a way to automatically start the Squeeze Player android app on boot; and always keep it running hidden in the background? I end up having to start Squeeze Player regularly every time as an additional step before I start my squeezebox controlling app. Squeeze Player doesnt have an option to run in the background silently; which is the only reason holding me back from using my phone as a Squeezebox client.

there are a number of autolaunching apps for android that can run any app on boot.

Thanks... but how does that keep the app running? Even if I manually launch it after boot, it doesnt stick around for very long.

I've never seen that problem. I'm pretty sure it's going on a few months of uptime on my motorola droid in my garage.

I got a reply back from the SqueezePlayer developer himself. The behavior I described is by design. Apparently, the only way to keep SqueezePlayer in memory is to keep the phone continuously plugged into power or play music constantly. I guess, Squeeze Player was never meant to be used on a "mobile" phone... just a stationary device that's plugged into power. Which is why I thought it would be much more practical to have a single "real" SB player app for mobile phones. I never really liked the idea of worrying about two separate apps loaded in memory just to play a song from the SB server.

"SqueezePlayer shuts itself down after 15minutes idling. This is to save your battery power (as SqueezePlayer needs to keep a constant connection to the server). SqueezePlayer won't be leaving the memory if the device is powered (not running on batteries)."

Edit: Using "Tasker" (worth every penny), I was able to configure my mobile phone to start SqueezePlayer as an android background service on boot; executed once every 14 minutes invisibly. It is now invisible process (just like any other low level system process); and, always guaranteed to be available as long as my phone is on; regardless if running on batteries or not. From now on, the only app I use is Squeeze Commander.

That would explain why I've never had a problem with it.

Question about Squeezebox server/clients/???

Here is what I want to do:
Play audio books in my home and on my cell phone when away from home. When I get home, I want the home units (either 3 or 4) to start where I left off on the cell and vice versa. (It's OK if the units wait for a "play" command, but I don't want to have to find my place in the book, which is what I do now) Playback devices will all be cheap Android devices hooked to a small amp or my Phone on my car amp.

Can do???

Would like the playback on my phone to start/stop on Bluetooth connect/disconnect and pause at phone calls/notifications.

Can do???

Thanks...

Basically, no. There's not really a way to bookmark a location in a file. This platform is designed for music.

isn't an audio book just a type of music file? (excuse my ignorance).

also, in the advanced settings for the music server (http://ip-address:9000), you can specify how to handle re-application of power (pause or stop song, restart or continue song, etc).........would that help?

That's how I treat them currently with a "music player" on android. I just turn off random play, and select by folder. QED. The only issue I currently have is that I have to manually sync the one I use at the house and the one I use in the car. BTW, I'm not worried about switch between books. I just listen to one at a time, so just pause/resume is enough.

Also, the wireless system I use in the house has dropouts once in a while. I have Ethernet to all locations I want playback to, so I thought cheap android devices might work better.

So, I was just asking.

BTW, I also found a "audio book" plugin for Squeezebox after posting (before a reply) but am unsure if it'll work in my environment yet. Need to email the writer.
