FYI: I reloaded a PC this weekend and had an issue with the XBMC Gotham Beta and this plugin. The navigation worked fine but playback of recorded TV failed.

I replaced Gotham with the latest stable version and everything worked fine.
I put no effort into troubleshooting the problem but if you are having a problem you may want to check what version you are using.

The plugin works great on Win7 and Win8 PCs with the stable version.
Also works mt Android tablets at least on the local LAN.

Has anyone else tried this addon with Gotham? I was considering upgrading to the Gotham beta this weekend but I will hold off if I can't get the Sage Addon working with it.

Haven't played with it extensively but it seems to work well for me with Gotham Beta 1.

This add-on works pretty well on XBMC side-loaded onto an Amazon Fire TV. (Which is a pretty impressive $99 box - hopefully an HD200 / HD300 replacement.)

When comparing it to the same Add-on installed on a Windows XBMC....The Android flavor seems to error out when attempting to schedule a recording when browsing the program guide.

Whereas, the windows flavor reports that the recording was successfully added. The Android flavor shows a red circle with an X in it.

Yet, when I check the SageTV web server - it seems all the recordings added on either platform have been added to the upcoming recordings list.

It' still early in my evaluation of the Fire TV - but out of the box it's the most impressive internet streamer I have ever seen. It's FAST.

And for that matter, I never expected this add-on to be able to schedule recordings let alone favorites. I would have been happy to use the web interface for that (or HD200s / HD300s). Have the authors of this add-on changed their minds in that regard?

Slack or anyone,
What did you use for the two paths in the configuration? I am running this on a BarnsNoble HD+ android tablet.
I put these values in the first two slots:
SageTV Recording folder:
smb://WEBSERVER/mother/VideoStore/SageVideo/
SageTV Recording Folder Network path:
smb://WEBSERVER/mother/VideoStore/SageVideo

my recordings are on my windows server at:
f:\VideoStore\SageVideo

I can browse recordings, but when I try to play them I get a "playback error":
(from part of the log)
NOTICE: DVDPlayer: Opening: F:/Video/Store/SageVideo/Seinfeld-S03E15.mpg
ERROR: CDVDPlayer:::OpenInputStream - error opening [F:\VideoStore\SageVideo\Seinfeld-S03E15.mpg]

This plugin works on XBMC when running on a windows machine with F: mapped the same as the server path, so i believe the server is set up properly.
FYI: I had to install the simplejson module from the xbmc site/frodo folder manually thru using the zip file, as, oddly enough, that was not included with the xbmc android arm install. I am running beta3 of Gotham.

that did it. thanks. putting a DOS path into an android computer was rather counter intuitive, so that messed me up.

Can you double check your case sensitivity and make sure it matches exactly? If it does, can you send the XBMC.log file when you try playback?

I'm the author. Can you elaborate on this and what you're looking for?

Android success

How are people's experience with this on android (and xbmc in general)?
I have tried this addon with Gotham beta 3 on three different android platforms with intermittant success. Frodo on Android for me is a no-go, as it does not support gpu acceleration. For Gotham I have tried:
- B&N Nook HD+ with ICS (stock OS, TI Omap dual-core 4470, SGX544)
- ZTE Awe with Jellybean 4.1.2 (Qualcomm 2 core MSM8630)
- Lenovo IdeaPad ICS (TI Omap dual-core 4430, SGX 540)

The main problem I have is that the video screen does not pop up sometimes and a static image of the menu is still sitting there. it sometimes crashes, sometimes I can stop the video. It seems to have this problem on all platforms, although the Awe (phone) seems to work the best. This also seems to happen when I play videos from the XBMC library added via SMB, so I don't think it is caused by, or even limited to the SageTV addon.

By the way, LehighBri, Kricker, and the other devs...thanks for your hard work on this.

One other thing: I did not see in the directions that you need to download and install (via zip) the simple_json module from the frodo library to get this addon to work. I had to do it on all three platforms. for frodo and gotham. I caught that detail in a forum post..is that everyone's experience?
I am talking about this:

thanks.

Nothing really. Just thought I read somewhere that scheduling recordings was not going to be a part of this Add-on.

Can't find that now.

Sorry no. Out of town at the moment. Won't be soon.

Is this something on the XBMC side? If so - I definitely did not install it when working with the Fire TV.

I have tried two supposedly Fire TV specific builds on teh Fire TV.
One based on Frodo spmc-armeabi-v7a_12.4.2.apk Link was in the first post on XBMC forum thread. and was orignally a lower version.
One based on Gotham. The first did not expose the DTS passthrough option, and someone posted in the body of that thread another bild - that did. Dunno if that is the one currently linked at the top of the thread now.

And in my experience Frodo based build does do GPU acceleration (although I might have had to disable the Mediacodec option). And it seemed more stable than the Gotham flavor. But I side loaded both and they both played 1080P mkvs without apparent issue.
Having said that I was not sitting back and looking for every possible problem. Just throwing files at it (them) and looking for gross inability to play, skip etc... and they played so well - I assumed gpu acceleration to be working.

I think once xda devs root it and start building for this target it will be much better.

Native PVR addon support isn't part of this addon. What is part of this addon though if you go to the main menu is you can browse listings (in a rudimentary way) and do some basic scheduling from there.

Media path confusion

I'm having trouble getting the extension to play anything. I can see the shows, background art, descriptions, upcoming recordings, etc. But I cannot get any media to play. I've read several people who've been having my problem, but I'm unable to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

- I have a linux server, with the TV recordings at /var/media/tv.
- It exports my recordings as: nfs://192.168.200.2/video/tv and smb://DROGON/video/tv

- I'm running Gotham 13.0-Beta3 on an android media streamer.

I've tried an failed to get NFS to work, and also to get SMB working. In both cases, I've browsed to the network path from the streamer. In fact, in the NFS case, I already have the same path mapped to "videos", and can watch recordings that way (eg, raw xbmc, very crude).

When I try NFS, I see this:

What's confusing me is that I don't see any smb:// or nfs:// UNC prefix in the paths that it has sent to the media player.

I feel like an idiot... What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Drewg - can you confirm if this works in windows or other OS for you? Just trying to isolate if this is an Android specific issue. I've never seen anything like this on my windows setup...

I have never tried windows.. I'll see if I can install it on a laptop & try it.

FWIW, I see the same behaviour from an older xbmc on an android tablet.

I'm using the sagetv video addon, downloaded from within xbmc, not the github version.

Thanks,

Drew

After using windows, I figured it out. Thanks for the suggestion. Having a keyboard & mouse made the debugging cycle much faster

The problem is that my SageTV server "recording directories" are listed as
/var/media/tv in the GUI configuration. However, that's a softlink, pointing at /video/tv (from years ago, when I moved my recordings onto a ZFS raidz array). When your plugin makes a sagex api request, the filename is being returned as /video/tv/foo.mpg and NOT /var/media/tv/foo.mpg.

I'm guess what's happening is that you're not matching the /video/tv directory string, and don't know what network share to look on because the server is returning the actual path, and not what's in the configuration. Its probably a linux quirk. To fix it, I just use the real /video/tv path in your configuration.

I just tried android, and it now works! Even with NFS! It looks really nice!

This is going to be awesome, once I get a handle on commercial skipping & changing my comskip edl files to use a commercial skip format, rather than a cutlist format. Do you know if its possible to change the timeline to show the cutpoints the same way that the SageTV comskip plugin does?

Thanks so much for this plugin!

Drew

I had a feeling there was something Linux/Android specific going on there... glad it's worked out now.

And re: comskip, XBMC does not show on the timeline where EDL cuts are, but their comskip support works great for me where it will auto jump over commercials based on what's in the EDL file.

To be clear, the issue is due to the linux server. A windows xbmc install had the exact same problem talking to my server.

I have no idea if its possible, but it might be handy to have some kind of popup appear when you cannot access the file that the sagex api call returned. Something like "Your SageTV server told me to play back D:\VIDEOS\SHOW.MPG, but I don't have a mapping for that. And take them to a config screen with a pre-filled in D:\VIDEOS for the recording path.

Just an idea..

Drew
