A new 350 Problem?

Well I enjoying the TV out on my 350 and life was good. Then the following problems surfaced. It seems when I come out of standby mode the 350 video out does not function. I get user interface on PC monitor on Sage and Sage says its recording.

I tried putting sage to sleep and still can't get video on Tv. If I restart the system it look like it clears the 350 and all works as it should but as soon as I put the system into standby when it comes out of standby the 350 TV does not work.

Anybody els having this problem and if you do not use standby could you test it and see if the same thing happens . Thanks

I have the same exact issue, it's not related to Sage TV in any way. It's a 350 issue all the way. WinTV doesn't work either for tv out and months ago I sent a letter to Hauppage and they said "they'd foward it on to the engineers". The new drivers posted by SHS don't have an affect by this, but I suggest maybe sending an email to Hauppage so that it gets more attention.

Edit:
It's not the tvout connector, it's specifically the video out. If you try to play a recording the sound out works, for me atleast. I use the composite out, and have tried the svideo out....neither produce a picture after standby/hibernate. Recording still work fine, no need to worry there. However when I come home from work, I have to reboot the machine to clear up the issue.

Some have suggested to enable and disable 3d acceleration, I am unable to do this in Sage....the ability doesn't seem possible with a 350.

Thanks for the reply. I will send an email to Hauppague (and see if I get the same response.) As you said recordings are ok so it just a pain to have to restart everyday.

I was hoping that someone might know a way to refresh(zap it) the card without restaring the computer. thanks again.

maybe try disabling it in the device manager and then reenable it

if it does not make you reinstall the drivers a simple program could be written
I have seen them do this at shspvr.com/forum for users that had there drivers crap out after a reboot

try a post there to see if anyone has any ideas

it would be a software issue

I sent an email to Hauppauge and so far just got a canned response. I have also posted the problem over at SHS but againr only response has been what kny3twalker suggested to disable in device manager.

I know from past experience devices such as LAN card have power management tabs which I assume implies that the driver has come code in it to deal with S3 and other power states. I guess the folks at Hauppauge never got that far with their driver software.

lurker said make sure the remote is not running cause that could cause the reboot
if so is the case then a application could be written to fix this

I don't use IIRemote anymore, I use girder. I'll try disabling/enabling the card in 30 minutes and see what happens. I tried disabling/enabling it though when I was running IIREmote before Girder and that's when I got the reboot message.

What did they say the application would do to fix this problem? I use SageWake and it would be simple to just put this app in the --execute command to run after coming out of hibernate/standby.

I've gotten in the habit of rebooting my machine every morning though, I've found that doing too many hibernations/standbys without a reboot will result in eventually the machine crashing when either trying to go into or coming out of hibernation/standby. All this points to a driver issue and ultimately needs to be fixed by Hauppage if they even care about power management, which they don't seem to by their FAQ.

I agree with your statement regarding Hauppauge, but I don't see them fixing this prolem any time soon. I also use Sagewake so it would be nice if their were an app that could be run to force a restart. Could we get sagewake to run shutdown.exe -r -t 01. Would this be a work around?

The only problem with restarting your machine is that you need to have sage running as a service in order for it to still record your "scheduled recordings". I heard there were issues with running it as a service and have avoided that. Otherwise it will sit at the login screen waiting for someone to log it in to the OS.

What kny3twalker suggested works if you do the following:
Kill IR.exe
Kill Sage
Kill any other task that may is using the 350 card (ie WinTV)

Go to Device Manager, drill down to Sound Devices.
Right click and disable the PVR 350 card.
Right click and enable the PVR 350 card.
Restart Sage
Restart IR.exe (if you use it)

This procedure has worked for me in getting my video to work after bring the computer back from Standby/Hibernate. I Sage a while and did not have an issue recording/playing back files either....

If no one in SHS's forum has written a program to restart the 350 card, I will look in to doing it. It must also be done BEFORE Sage is restarted by SageWake, I'm pretty sure you can set the order of that and/or do something to work around it with SageWake.

Note: If you have any application open that is using the 350 card and you go to disable it....you will be forced to reboot the machine before the disable/enable will take effect.

YAY!!

Lurker over there on shs's forum pointed me to a thread where they discussed a Microsoft program that has the ability to restart devices. I'm attaching a zip with how I'm using it right now.

What you first want to do is find all the devices you need to restart, for example lets go with TV Tuner class cards. Execute the following command:

devcon find "PCI\VEN_4444"

This will retun a list of devices....then what I did was take the compelete device ID of the device I wanted to restart:

PCI\VEN_4444&DEV_0803&SUBSYS_40000070&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&50

In a batch file I place the following command:

devcon.exe restart PCI\VEN_4444&DEV_0803&SUBSYS_40000070&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&50

Now because we are using SageWake....we have to do the following:

Make sure the --terminate="SageApp" flag is set. This will make sure that SageWake kills SageTV when the system goes in to Hibernate/Standby. The reason being is that we can not have any program tied to the device we want to restart running upon bringing the computer out of sleep.

Please also make sure the IR.exe shortcut is deleted from your startup folder....

Also add the --execute="C:\SageWake\restart350.bat" line to your SageWake shortcut. This will make sure SageWake executes this batch file after your system wakes up.

At this point you're almost set, except for the fact that now nothing is starting Sage... : O I recommend, unless you're doing some kind of RAMDisk setup like I am, placing a line in the restart350.bat file that will launch Sage after the device has been restarted.

I should also note that I don't have the setting in Sage to "Load at Startup", rather I have a shortup in my startup menu to do that for me. If anything differs in operation, this may be why...

Alex

I am almost their. Here is my batch file in startup folder:

cd "C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\
SageWake --noir --leadtime=120 --terminate="SageApp" --execute="C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\sagetv\restart350.bat" --execute="C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\SageTV.exe" --schedfile="c:\program files\frey technologies\sagetv\schedule.txt"

exit

This is my restart350 batch file:
devcon.exe restart PCI\VEN_4444&DEV_0803&SUBSYS_40000070&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&50

The restart 350 file works if I execute it independently of Sagewake. However it does not seem to be executing from within sagewake.

I am not as expert as you in these matters so any help would be appreciated.

P.S. i am not sure what your mean in the paragraph:

"At this point you're almost set, except for the fact that now nothing is starting Sage... : O I recommend, unless you're doing some kind of RAMDisk setup like I am, placing a line in the restart350.bat file that will launch Sage after the device has been restarted."

.
What I meant in that paragraphs is for you to do the following:

Make the batch in the startup folder like this:

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
cd "C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\
SageWake --noir --leadtime=120 --terminate="SageApp" --execute="C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\sagetv\restart350.bat" --schedfile="c:\program files\frey technologies\sagetv\schedule.txt"

exit
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Make the restart350.bat file look like this:

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
devcon.exe restart PCI\VEN_4444&DEV_0803&SUBSYS_40000070&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&50

C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\SageTV.exe
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

This way Sage is executed right after the device is restarted. After I posted, I started to give it some thought and I don't think mwhitlock specified whether or not in the "--execute" command, if the programs were run asynchronously or not. What this significance is to us, is that we want synchronous execution.

We want the device to reset BEFORE Sage starts....otherwise we will run in to the issue where the device wants the computer to reboot before the reset takes effect. Asynchronously, the commands don't wait for the previous to finish. Running them together like this (above) in the batch file will gaurantee a synchronous execution.

I hope this clears up what I meant and gets you on the right track. I'm doing this now...and it works great.

I don't know if you have it or not, but I still have the issue of lockups after doing while going into or coming out of hibernate/standby if there are too many of them between reboots. So I will still be rebooting my machine every morning, but atleast now I won't have to reboot it in the evening after to work to watch my recordings. : )

If you would be so kine, just one more time. The batch file running devcon and then starting Sage does not seem to start sage.
Here is the revise Sagewake bat file:
cd "C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\
SageWake --noir --leadtime=120 --terminate="SageApp" --execute="C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\sagetv\restart350.bat" --schedfile="c:\program files\frey technologies\sagetv\schedule.txt"

exit

here is the restart.bat file:
devcon.exe restart PCI\VEN_4444&DEV_0803&SUBSYS_40000070&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&50

C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\SageTV.exe

I can see it execute the Devcon command but then its seems to pause and end ans Sage does not start up.

Get rid of the spaces in:

PCI\VEN_4444 & DEV
_0803 & SUBSYS_40000070 & REV_01\3 & 61AAA01 & 0 & 50

it should be:

PCI\VEN_4444&DEV_0803&SUBSYS_40000070&REV_01\4&2E98101C&0&10F0

Luckily since you only have one PVR card, the devcon program will work off matching substrings and was able to restart the device. But since there were spaces btween the '&' in your command, it looks like the windows cmd prompt was interpretting this as seperate commands. At the command prompt, you can use '&' to run to programs back to back on one line. Like 'mkdir test & rmdir test'...

Also, try putting quotes around this line:

"C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\SageTV.exe"

Since the path has a space in it, I believe to run it from a batch file, it would be better to have quotes around it.

Otherwise you can try:

C:\PROGRA~1\FREYTE~1\SageTV\SageTV.exe

But...since this batch file runs from within the SageTv directory, couldn't you just call SageTv.exe and not worry about the path? For example:

devcon.exe restart PCI\VEN_4444&DEV_0803&SUBSYS_40000070&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&50

SageTV.exe

Pause

This is the actual restart.bat file:
devcon.exe restart PCI\VEN_4444&DEV_0803&SUBSYS_40000070&REV_01\4&2E98101C&0&10F0

sagetv.exe

pause

As you can see their are no spaces. It seems that the spaces are introduced when it is execuited. I don't know why. However currently it is working but the garbage lines are still being generated.

thanks again Sorry to be such a painbut I would like to get it to run clean.
