Media type changing from TV to Movie

I noted something weird yesterday with several of my TV series. I had renamed all my TV series files to a standard "Title SxxExx" format and then had BMT search for metadata. While renaming I had also renamed all special episodes to "Title Specialname.special" so they wouldn't be scanned initially. The regular files were correctly identified as TV and metadata came in fine. Of course, the specials were ignored.

I then piped a dir of *.special to a text file for reference, so I can methodically go through and manually create metadata for these files. Then I removed the ".special" from all the special episodes, touching those files as the names were changed. So, next scan BMT came up with goofy metadata for these files, which is fine and expected.

While going through and manually editing the metadata for these special files, I noted that in some cases all the other normal episodes for the TV series had been changed to Movie types instead of TV, like it was previously. Getting BMT to rescan the items fixed them, but I had to set it to overwrite the old metadata.... thereby overwriting my manual edits to the special episodes also.... .

Any idea why BMT would do this?

Do you have option turned off that creates/updates .properties? If so, this I suspect your are seeing the expected behaviour. Turn on the setting to update .properties, and this problem will probably go away.

The selection "Update .properties when changed" is check-marked. I've never touched this, therefore it must be the same as when I originally installed. .properties files are being created alongside my media files.

That is the default setting... I wish I had some other suggestions, but I can't really say why this is happening.
