I disabled IPv6 (using 0x20) on the server (W7.. NAS) and the client PC. XP (SageTV service) didn't have it installed. I haven't noticed any difference after rebooting. Any idea if I should try a different hex entry for disabling IPv6? I also turned off the Windows Firewall, but didn't have time to check its effect.

I'll probably need to reboot the server and go into the M1015's settings in order to try and disable spin down.

@JonTom: I've always had my drives using UNC paths, but the delay only appeared after I completely rebuilt the server. Since I changed just about everything at that point, I can't say what may have introduced the circle.

I think the best route to trouble shoot this further would be to stop a show that exhibits the problem at a known time (right when the minute rolls over to the next maybe) - then look on both SageTV\* folders (server and client if applicable) and see what files were modified after you hit stop.

I'd capture debug logs as well and look for anything that jumps out (again after the timemark that you hit stop at) - maybe it's doing something in the wiz.bin, and if your wiz bin is big enough an update there could take a bit? between the debug logs and the files that were modified after you hit stop, maybe something will become obvious as to what Sage is doing during the spinning circle...

You might be onto something there, bialio. I installed a program to watch all files and folders in the SageTV directory just a few minutes before I was going to stop and delete a recording I was watching. The biggest jump I saw was about 30 seconds when sjq.sqlite was being written to and I noticed that file repeatedly taking that long. This file is currently 1.66GB. I don't know what this file does, but it's obviously related to SJQ. It's a start.

That is huge. Mine is only 9 meg. That file keeps track of your tasks and logging that you have ran using SJQ.

What program did you use? Does it keep a log file?

Reason I'm asking is I sometimes get the spinning circle on stop but more often get it while the wife is navigating the menus. Hadn't had luck tracking down the issue but maybe something that would watch/report on the Sage files might help in my research

Thanks for the info; that had crossed my mind when I saw the size. I just checked my completed tasks (SJQ3, for the record) and it's 42 pages long. I just cleared that out, but the file hasn't shrunk at all. What strange is that all my purge settings are set to weekly, but it doesn't seem to actually be purging anything. I'm checking other SJQ logs from within the SJQ UI and seeing if there's anything I can manually clear to shrink that file.

I went with this one. It can watch just about any aspect of a file or folder (and its subfolders) you want and it logs whatever you've chosen to monitor.

BTW, when I said it took 30 seconds for that file to process, it was an assumption that the next thing logged by fws needed to wait until the previous one finished. Even if that was incorrect, the logging still seems to have pointed to a possible culprit.

Skirge01,

What I do is redirect the logging to a temp file for comskip handbrake etc... so that my sjqlite DB remains small.

here is an example of my comskip.

comskip.bat
Code:
CD "C:\SageTV\SageTV\comskip"
c:
comskip.exe "%~f1" --ini="C:\SageTV\SageTV\comskip\comskip.ini" > "c:\temp\%~n1.log" 2>&1
if exist "c:\temp\%~n1.log" del "c:\temp\%~n1.log"
if exist "%~d1%~p1%~n1.log" del "%~d1%~p1%~n1.log"
if exist "%~d1%~p1%~n1.incommercial" del "%~d1%~p1%~n1.incommercial"
if not exist "%~d1%~p1%~n1.vprj" del "%~d1%~p1%~n1.edl"
if exist "%~d1%~p1%~n1.vprj" exit 0
exit 1

I dont have SJQ installed (which means I dont have a sjq.sqlite file)...
The problem happens on every stop of a show...

Must be something else...

See attached snapshot... all of the files under SageTV are quite small.

I'm not sure if there's an easy way to do that (and keep it clean, like your "if exist" statements do) in SJQ3. I see how I could redirect the output by appending what you have to my own SJQ comskip commands, but I'm not sure if it would be beneficial without a way to clean it up afterwards.

I'm also not seeing what else I can manually do within SJQ3 to clean up that file. The server logs are in sjq.log, so that's not it, and the client log file seems to be empty.

Ideally, I'd like to find a way to clean up that file on some frequency, but I'm not sure that's going to be possible. Is it safe to just delete the sjq.sqlite file? If so, I could set up a task to simply delete it once a week. Again, not my preference, but it could work.

The delay stopping happens for both RecordedTV as well as movies...
Any video that is playing it spins for a few seconds when stopping. (starting and playing is instant).

I make a copy of it once in a while to another directory. Then I delete the original after shutting down Sage then I use "SQLite Database Browser" to browse the
copied SJQLITE DB and recreate the empty one (that is created when Sage is restarted) with rules etc.... Of course you have to make sure that your rules at least check for existence or not existence of a file or else they will run again. They need some kind of check.

We all could very well be tracking down different issues. The good thing is that all the ideas being tossed around should at least assist everyone in getting to the bottom of it. Someone else already fixed their delay with the suggested time sync.

I think I'll post in the SJQ3 thread and see if Slugger has any suggestions on why that file might be growing so big and how to clear it out. I'm sure there's a "right" way to do it; I just hope he remembers.

I used the "File Watcher" to see what was being touched under the SageTV directory on start and stop and it showed this:

Code:
[7/25/2013 12:07:28 AM] [Info] File or folder changed 'X:\SageTV\SageTV'.

[7/25/2013 12:07:11 AM] [Info] Daemon 'SageTV_Watcher' is started.
I 'tailed' the 'X:\SageTV\SageTV\logs\phoenix.log and see this:

Why is it saying "Stopped for null"?

I then switched my STV to the SageTV default STV and still found that Phoenix is logging message when a video playback is stopped:

Code:
2013-07-25 00:11:02,667 [PluginEventQueue] INFO sagex.phoenix.stv.OnlineVideoPlaybackManager - Playback Stopped for null
Why is Phoenix doing this if the default STV is being used?

I discovered that one of my network encoders had gone offline without my knowledge - only found out when I tried to watch a channel I dont usually watch which requires my STB to tune it (the STB is attached to the Network Encoder). The server of course does not know the actual status of the Network Encoder since it is a completely separate box.

Fixed the network encoder and all of a sudden my SageTV install is very fast again. When I press stop on a playing show it instantly stops. No more spinning circles at all. In fact, all other functions are also very fast.

Seems that the offline network encoder was somehow causing issues for the SageTV server... perhaps it was trying to use it or check its status? Not sure but I made no other changes than to reboot the network encoder to bring it online so it appears to be the cause...

So was this solved for everyone? Couldn't tell. Maybe the thread just petered out.

I still have this on occasion, same symptoms, i.e. stopping a recording that is playing back will go into infinite spinning cursor. Since it always throws the server into an unusable state with endless exceptions (even after quitting the client), I have to reboot the server. Simply shutting it down isn't enough as the "zombie service" cannot be killed and has a hold of network ports if I try to open a new SageTV server process.

Mine happens on my HD300, but on nothing else. I think it may be related to comskip or Phoenix, something that also has files open, but never been able to pin that down.

This is the lead up to the exception, if anyone has any ideas.

It happens whenever a tuner is having an issue.
For me it is typically the HDPVRs (though rarely). No issues with SageDCT and HDHR Prime or Ceton.

To solve reset the offending tuner.

Meaning a live recording that just happens to be going on at the same time? And not necessarily the recording that one is stopping playback of?

My issue was related to FlexRAID's tRAID architecture being incompatible with SageTV. What it boils down to is that SageTV cannot record directly to a tRAID storage array. However, tRAID allows you to access the individual drives in the array, while still providing parity protection to the entire array, so I just have SageTV write directly to the individual drives. All other software programs access the array itself.
