Question Hauppage remote loses focus?

I have a 350 card with the bundled remote from Hauppauge attached to a Compaq 5100 (847 MHz, 128MB <gotta get more>). I have tried the various upgrades to irremote.ini and ir.exe, but find that after a few minutes the remote (either the physical device or ir.exe) loses track of what it is supposed to do.

Most recently I have experienced that after getting things going, the remote menu button brings up the windows ALT-TAB application selection instead of telling SageTV to present the main menu.

Am I experiencing inadvertant interference from the use of another remote to control my other devices (raise sound on TV or A/V switch?), or am I just doing something wrong? I can guarantee that nobody touched the hauppauge remote prior to the problem.

Any Ideas?

It may be helpful to post the contents of your IIRemote.ini (typically stored in C:\Windows\)...we can help you debug why ALT-TAB is being send when you press MENU.

There is also an entry in the FAQ about setting up your IIRemote.ini so that Sage doesn't have to have focus in order to operate:

If you're interested in that route, then I would read this thread:

In addition to the info given above, perhaps you should check out the latest Hauppauge IR version. It was posted to this forum, so you can download it from this post.

I updated ir.exe to ( 2.41.22165.0) and installed the iiremote.ini from the "no focus" thread.

I am fine as long as Sage TV has focus, but if the PC Screen Saver comes on (I have it disabled now), or SageTV loses focus to another application, the remote is ignored.

I believe that I have all the pieces installed, but clearly I have missed something . . .

Are you using the green power button to start SageTV? If so, that is supposed to put the remote into SageTV mode, as your file shows in the [default] section, and then never give up that mode setting until you use the green power button to put SageTV to sleep.

I normally use the mouse-and-screen interface to double-click on SageTV to start it up. Never tried just hitting the button, as I leave it on all the time except when I need to tickle it to get it moving again.

I will try that next time I get the chance.

Thanks.

That's what is happening then -- without the use of that mode() command, the Hauppauge IR software responds to whatever app currently has focus and uses its irremote.ini section, or [Default] if no section matches the active app.

If you want that remote to work, always use it to start/sleep SageTV & then the ini file you are using will always work no matter what app has focus.
