best alternative to original hdpvr 1212

Still have a couple hdpvr 1212's attached to my STBs to record channels that cannot be recording with my HDHR Prime or Ceton4. Also it is good insurance for the future...

If one of my hdpvr's dies what is the best alternative? A new hdpvr2?

My method was to purchase additional 1212's on clearance at BestBuy. I know the HD-PVR2 has been used. SHS posted a registry change needed to get it to work.

I just waited and watched on Ebay, for the 1212 that is. What you're looking for is one that was used by a gamer, which means it probably wasn't used to anywhere near the extent that we use them. I have purchased them slightly used now anywhere from $60 to $90, depending on how vigilante you watch and bid.

So far, I've been able to purchase on Ebay, and literally just swap it with my current one to test without any changes to the system. I suppose there could be a firmware issue with this method, but I haven't seen it yet.

I would really prefer the Colossus, due to it's higher recording bitrate capability and the slight increase in HDMI quality, but based on the struggles of the Colossus users here on the Sage forum, I've opted to just stick with the HDPVR 1212's for now.
