Changing the timeshift delay.

Hi,

I dont have a way of letting Sage control my Sky box yet.

When I try to change channels there is, of course, a few seconds delay until the Sky EPG appears.

Is there a way that I can reduce this delay please?

Thanks,

Simon.

Have you tried downloading the latest Sage? 2.0.20 corrected some of those problems.

no not really because it is encoded just like everything ease you are recording

but you can find like one the music channel or sports channel that have never ending time brackets so you will not lose any of your show while watching liveTV and set sage to that channel even though it will not change it
and then change it will your remote for your STB until you get an IR blaster

you should also be a way to tell sage not to use its guide data during setup

but you cannot get rid of the delay

See that little "quote" button below each post, to the right? That puts the entire post into quotes & provides a place to edit it & your add-on message on the next screen.

ok
you have two choices when having an STB box and no way to control it through sage

1 when you setup a source let sage not to use the guide data from sage
if you already have a source setup remove it and redo it with guide data this time rather than choosing a cable/satellite service provider

2 if you are getting a ir blaster soon and just do not want to turn off the guide in sage

you can change the channel of your STB with your STB remote

but you will need to find a channel in the guide that never has a show ending or show starting
the music channels or sports ordering channels usuallly do this

and select that channel in the sage guide

by all means you can choose any channel but if you choose one with lets say shows starting and ending every half hour

and you are watching an hour long show
then during this hour long show about 15 minutes into it you choose to pause to go to the bathroom
then when you are watching the show and the 30 minutes mark hits you will lose the buffer because sage thinks the show has ended and you will lose some of your show it will basically jump foward to half way through the show at that point

but this way you can atleast use the sage guide which will not have the long delay like the guide will have especially during time shifting

3 also one more you can change channels on both sage and the STB alll the time

but this is very annoying

also forget about scheduling recording unless your STB has a timer built that will change channels

then of course you could setup timed recordings as long as you set the STB for the same time and the channel you want

I hope this helps explain it
I can go over it one more time if you need help with it again

Okay, a problem.

I have turned off all my channels apart from one. That is fine.

I then go into setup wizard, and attempt to turn off the epg support.
Every time I select disable, it takes me to the channel setup screen. I hit done with changes (without making any), but I still have EPG.

I can see that it is divided up into 2hr periods. Typically the phone has just rung, and because the programme went over the 2hr mark, I lost the end of knightrider

yeah you would need to use a channel that never or extremely rarely changes shows
or turn off the guide data when you setup the source not change the channel line up

just got the setup wizard if you do not want an epg guide data at all
and remove the source
then there should be none listed

you will then need to add a new source and let sage know when it asks that you do not want epg data

but I would just use a channel that has a show that never ends

with my DirecTV service
i found one that never changed shows but every eight hours and they show change was at weird times that I would not be watching

I think it was like sign up for the football sunday ticket channel or something

you can also just remove all the channels from the guide but not sure what will happen there

Also I only did this for like three days until I ran and got a serial cable

Edgley. Sage is built around the idea of having an internal EPG, with knowledge of when programs are shown etc... It copes with satellite boxes by controlling them itself using IR or RS232 connections -- mapping their channels to its own channels. You then change channels in Sage, and it will re-tune the sat box itself/

Recording things then becomes simple -- select a show and mark it as a Faviourite, and Sage will record all episodes. by automatically changing the channel on the sat decoder when the programme time comes. Recording movies is as simple as highlighting it and hitting Record.

If you don't configure an EPG for Sage (in the UK this is limited to http://tv.bleb.org and http://www.xmltv.org), then you will be constantly fighting against Sage's way of working.

I know that the Sky boxes have their own EPG and timer settings, but most of the UK users here are using the internal EPGs.

For more questions on UK setup, ask in the UK forums.

I will be getting a blaster so I can use the internal EPG.

I was just after a work around until I can get it sorted.
