Hauppauge HD-PVR 1212 On Network Hub

I'm about to pull the trigger on buying one of these devices:

http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2

Wondering if anyone successfully has the HD-PVR running off a network USB hub? I want to virtualize my SageTV server instance but needing the HD-PVR connected via USB has been preventing me from pulling the trigger on it. I may order one anyway but just want to get some opinions or experience on this.

Sorry can't comment on the device you mention.

But I have my HD-PVR's connected to a USB card passed through to a Windows 7 VM on ESXi 5.0. I'm using a USB 3.0 card now but was using USB 2.0 card before. Works well for me with the following quirks: The USB 2.0 card took up 3 ESXi PCI devices to get all ports working - shows as 3 linked devices that ALL have to be passed through for all ports to work. With the USB 3.0 card ESXi doesn't initialize the HD-PVRs correctly when it boots so I have to cycle the HD-PVRs after the VM boots every time I reboot ESXi but not every time I restart the Windows VM. I also have passed through a MB USB controller and used HVR-950Qs - but not HD-PVRs however.

So unless you have other reasons for not wanting to pass through a USB controller I wouldn't let USB devices stop you from virtualizing SageTV.

I'm actually using Hyper-V for virtualization so hardware passthrough is not possible.

My setup is similar to BobPhoenix's and it works just fine with the USB 2.0 ports I'm passing through. This passthrough requirement is the reason I didn't go with Hyper-V. I would be concerned about the HD-PVR working as a network device, though. It's already a touchy device and then you add a hypervisor to the mix and now you want to try and twist the the functionality from USB to ethernet? I just think that's asking for trouble. But, it may very well work just fine! I just wouldn't want to be the guinea pig.

One reviewer mentioned that there is no bi-directional printer support. If that means the unit can't transmit communication back to the computer, that would probably kill any remote possibility this might work in the first place.

Whenever a person uses one of these for a printer connection, you have to map the printer driver to a network port - is this even possible to map the Hauppauge device driver in this fashion?
