I've been waiting for this one. It could be my next STB/Player.

Wifi only is kind of a turn off. No USB port, even.

It has a mini-usb but no Ethernet is a killer. Also, no mention of IR.

Didn't even see that yet. I was just going to go and look. But no Ethernet? Sheesh. That makes no sense.

Well, it does have 802.11ac, so it doesn't really need it.

Most consumers have been conditioned to hate wires so I'm not surprised.

BTW, this was funny from Android Central:

I think if I were somehow forced to use a wifi only device (never gonna happen), I would probably place it directly on top of a wifi router so I'm never dealing with signal issues.

I understand why people don't want to use wireless for streaming to Sage TV clients and extenders. You really do need to have pretty good equipment and conditions for that to work. I've done it for many years now without much problems (except when a router needs a reboot), but even I would rather not do that if I could avoid it (without ripping open several walls in my house).

But, for a device like this, wireless really ought to be fine. Chromecast is wireless only. Many Rokus are wireless only. I wouldn't expect a lot of support for playing back videos from NAS on this this. You'll be using it with online services or doing real-time transcoding with Plex. I don't think wireless will be a problem.

I'm far more troubled by the apparent lack of IR and several major streaming apps being left out at launch.

I agree completely. But, my guess is that there will be a way to control things via TCP/IP and Eventghost or my automation run from my server, translating button presses. Because I am pretty sure their remote won't control my plasma, receiver, etc.

Wifi only really dampened my desire for this device. I already have a Chromecast. I don't want a casual gaming device. I think I'll pass.
