REMOTE CONTROL question

I'm looking at replacing my Haupauge PVR-250's remote with a more generic ONE FOR ALL type of remote to control my entire entertainment system.

CAN SAGE 2.0 learn other IR COMMANDS (using the OEM IR reciever that cam with the Hauppauge card) and simply use another brands codes for functionality?

Example, can I use a TIVO CODE set that is loaded in my new remote and have sage learn that "this" button code means THIS in sage?

Again, a manual would be nice....

I'm just curious... have you ever read my documents regarding the Hauppauge IR receiver/software? This is all covered there, even the use of a JP1-compatible OFA remote or any that can emit codes the Hauppauge IR receiver understands. Again: see the links in my sig lines.

Anyway, for more details:

Using JP1 with that OFA or not? JP1 is MUCH easier, but it can probably be made to work w/o JP1 with a lot more effort on your part. This is covered in: How to replace it. It explains exactly what IR protocol the Haupauge receiver can respond to & it can only respond to that single type of protocol; it is not a general purpose IR receiver.

SageTV itself has _nothing_ to do with the Hauppauge IR receiver. It doesn't use it, it doesn't know it is there, it doesn't care about it. The Hauppauge IR software is what interacts with the receiver and then sends commands to SageTV, according to how you have irremote.ini configured. It does not learn any IR codes from any remote. You have to configure irremote.ini to tell the software how to respond to the commands it is capable of recognizing.

See comments above about the lack of code learning with this receiver. IF and ONLY IF that TIVO CODE uses the protocol the receiver is limited to, you can use it. I can't answer that since I don't have a TIVO remote. If it doesn't use that protocol, you either need to use a different remote or a different receiver.

I'm so confused! I bought the SageTV PVR-350 bundle with the silver Hauppauge remote. I just want to understand what the buttons do and what I can change them to. I've read the "Where can a find the official list of all the sendmessage, keystroke, and -event commands used by SageTV?" at http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...263#post39263.

In that post, "This link" points to http://www.freytechnologies.com/2_pa...sMessages.txt. It contains:

Here's the list of the event codes for all of the SageTV V2.0 Commands:

Left 2
Right 3
Up 4
<snip>
SageTV Recordings 86
Picture Library 87
Video Library 88
Stop 89

This forum entry goes on to say "These same commands can also be used from inside of SageTV by Keyboard or remote control. You just need to link them to the desired button/keystroke first. To do this go to Setup>Detailed Setup>Commands and select the "Link Infrared/Keystroke to SageTV Command" option."

BUT as I understand it, the button/keystroke for SageTV are in Irremote.ini. This contains:

[SageTV]
1={numpad1}
2={numpad2}
3={numpad3}
<snip>
RESERVED={ctrl}{shift}s
TV={ctrl}v
MINIMIZE={ctrl}f
RADIO={home}

The file SageTVWindowsMessages.txt contains just numbers where the Irremote.ini contains entries such as {ctrl}x and {ctrl}{ip}. How do I reconcile these?

Further, how do I know what FASTFWD={ctrl}f, SKIPFWD={f6}, etc. mean? Can I change SKIPFWD to not skip so far forward? How?

I've also read "Configuring Silver PVR-350 Remote" at http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...&threadid=3826

WHY ISN'T THERE A MANUAL FOR THIS THING?

We know what those event numbers & so are, so they really aren't all needed in a post. It just makes the post unnecessarily long.

For the Hauppauge remote, you have a choice of changing the key used in irremote.ini & assigning that key in SageTV, or leaving the ini file alone & simply redefining how the key is assigned in SageTV, in detailed setup as you quoted above.

The key names listed in irremote.ini are simply the keystroked the Hauppauge remote software will send to SageTV, as if you had typed them on the keyboard yourself.

Edit2: To see how the current Hauppauge remote keys are used in SageTV, go to Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Show command. Press a button & you will see what the associated command is.

The event numbers have nothing to do with this, unless you are using the irremote.ini style of commands discussed in link #3 in my sig lines. EDIT: Event numbers are used when you send commands to SageTV via Windows messages.

See SageTV Configuration Properties regarding adjusting those ff/rew times in the properties file, but remember to close SageTV completely before editing the properties. In particular, see the "videoframe/ff_time" property & those like it.

Sorry. I deleted that.

I did go look in "Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Show command" before I posted. That only tells me what the defined keys map to in terms of FASTFWD but not how that relates to "videoframe/ff_time" nor for any capabilities that aren't mapped by default.

That's why I pointed out the property you would have to look into changing & the document that would explain what those properties are. The Skip Fwd/Skip Bkwd commands correspond to the ff/rew times & the Skip Fwd2/Skip Bkwd2 commands (not assigned keys by default) correspond to the ff/rew 2 times. As the doc says, they are in milliseconds, & are initially set to 10 seconds for ff/rew & 2:30 for ff2/rew2.
