IR stopped working, things to check please

Howdy,

Just booted up today, and no response from the remote.

I have rebooted, restarted the IR service, but nothing

What do I need to check next please, before I have to roll back and start all over again.

Thanks,

Simon.

Was the IR working properly when you shut down the system?
Do you see any IR error messages when you start up?
Is SageTV the active window when you try to use IR?
Have you checked the links that opus4 has in his signature line?

I am almost out of ideas but you can ckeck these:
Make sure the IR receiver is still in place to recieve the signal.
Have you tried new batteries in the remote?
Check the irremote.ini file and make sure it has the SageTV entries toward the end of the file.
You probably should enable the beep in the irremote.ini file and restart the IR. This will at least indicate if the IR software is getting the signals.
Good luck

All the suggestions above are good, but I thought I would add to this one with a reason why this might be a problem: if you've recently reinstalled the IR software, it will overwrite the ini file. Before a reinstall, save a copy of your ini. If this is the problem & you don't have a copy of your old one, there are basic ini files you can get started with in my sig links; no need to reinstall SageTV to restore those commands.

Try this...

If you are still having a problem, I have found some customers have pulled on the IR sensor cable to the point of damaging the cable at the point it plugs into the card. Replacing the IR sensor takes care of the problem.

Okay, here is what I have done:

Replaced batteries.
Re-installed sage, with support for IR

- still doesnt work

Found the beep in the ini file, removed the ; and restarted.

No beep.

Hmmm. can not believe that either the sensor or remote has stopped working overnight.

Is there anything else I can check please?

Thanks

If you are using the Beep command in the ini file, make sure there is a Default Beep setting for the Program Events in Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Sounds.

When you restart IR.exe, leave focus on the desktop, and press the "Go" button, do you get any sort of pop-up menu?

Well I never!

I had a spare IR, so I just plugged it in, and it works!

Can not believe the other one had failed.

You mean the cable, right? I wonder if the other one would work if you plugged it in again... or if you've got kids who have been pulling on it when you weren't looking... I have had various cables go bad over the years -- they just sat there & one day they didn't work. I guess hard drives aren't the only things that go bad. Thanks Mike, for that reminder.

I agree with Opus4, I found that unplugging the cable and replugging it in works great
My remote would do the same thing as yours many times and this actually happened the first time I installed one of the cards
I pulled the cable out and replugged it in and it worked great

maybe you should try the other cable again and see if it will work still or not

I used to have to unplug/replug my hauppage ir sensor periodically. It eventually came to 2-3 times a day (and I was the only one touching it).

Finally, I installed an irMan on the com port and have never had a problem since. I had to setup the commands in Sage, but I still use my hauppage remote.
