That is why I go with WD Blacks.

There is also a head parking feature that can be disabled on the green drives. When head parking is enabled, it has been rumored that it shortens the life of the drive.

Only one tuner is being used

Hello experts .. I am at my wits end so i am hoping that some one can help
I installed PrimeNewEncoder yesterday and all went well but today i noticed that only one of my tuners is being used. I have reinstalled everything but same results. I am using the encoder on the same machine as my headless sage server.

My config
1. 2 nics, one for LAN and another connected to HDHR
2. Firewall off to remove any related issues

HELP!!!

Sage died yesterday during the NBA game and fortunately we were home, but I need to get this going for Sunday's game; need to record 3 programs in parallel.

I have been using SageDCT for some time but that failed 2 days ago

Because there is a time frame involved, the first question is; do you have a complete system image from a short time ago, when the system was still running properly?

When you say that you reinstalled, did you also reinstall SageTV from scratch?

Post your primencoder properties file and your sagetv.properties file.

PS are you trying to get SAGEDCT to work too or the PrimeEncoder only one can run at a time.

Your tuner ports for the other 2 tuners were wrong they are corrected below. They are wrong in the DOC I have asked for this to be corrected. Just make corrections to the prime encoder properties file... and restart,

Code:
#
#Example Setings file for PrimeNetEncoder
#
tuners.count=3
tuner0.name=HDHomeRun Prime Tuner 0
tuner0.port=7000
tuner0.enabled=True
tuner0.id=13195F9B
tuner0.number=0
tuner0.transcoder.port=5000
tuner0.transcode.enabled=False
tuner0.transcode.deinterlace=True
tuner0.transcode.bitrate=4000
# Example for h.264 safe scaling to 720p: trunc(oh*a/2)*2:720
# A setting of blank will do no scaling
tuner0.transcode.scaling=
tuner0.transcode.preset=ultrafast
# Codec is an experimental setting for testing hardware encoding
# There are development builds of ffmpeg that incude those features
tuner0.transcode.codec=libx264
tuner1.name=HDHomeRun Prime Tuner 1
tuner1.port=7001
tuner1.id=13195F9B
tuner1.number=1
tuner1.enabled=True
tuner1.transcoder.port=5010
tuner1.transcode.enabled=False
tuner1.transcode.deinterlace=True
tuner1.transcode.bitrate=4000
tuner1.transcode.scaling=
tuner1.transcode.preset=ultrafast
tuner1.transcode.codec=libx264
tuner2.enabled=True
tuner2.id=13195F9B
tuner2.number=2
tuner2.name=HDHomeRun Prime Tuner 2
tuner2.port=7002
tuner2.transcoder.port=5020
tuner2.transcode.enabled=False
tuner2.transcode.deinterlace=True
tuner2.transcode.bitrate=4000
tuner2.transcode.scaling=
tuner2.transcode.preset=ultrafast
tuner2.transcode.codec=libx264
HDHomeRunConfig.path=C\:\\Program Files\\Silicondust\\HDHomeRun\\hdhomerun_config.exe
ffmpeg.path=ffmpeg.exe
# This setting is in miliseconds.
# Increasing setting may result in less halts in starting recording
ffmpeg.delay=500
discovery.port=8271

1) Were you ever able to figure out what caused the problem with SageDCT?

2) Do you see any difference in quality between running SageDCT and PrimeNetEncoder?

Since i have a lot of experience with both SAGEDCT and PrimeEncoder. I will give you reasons why I switched to Prime Encoder.

1. SAGEDCT was not being updated with PrimeEncoder it is a matter of dropping in the most recent ffmpeg.exe.

2. PrimeEncoder uses the HdHomerun software for channel change. This means that I can also use it with the new OTA tuners (which I do). Sage remuxes the TS OTA files to mpg Incorrectly. I could not even extract closed captions ... no problem doing this when using PrimEncoder files.
See this thread.
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61971

3. If you have a Powerful PC you can transcode to h264 on the fly.

$. I was getting breakups with SageDCT.

I would recommend it for anyone that uses a Prime.

From my end, i don't have a working SageDCT solution so at this point i can not comment. I have not had a lot of issues with SageDCT in the past; some failures related to SageDCT loosing the connection with the tuners once in a while and frequent video tearing. So i was thinking of moving to PrimeNewEncoder sometime over the summer. But the recent SageDCT failure accelerated that move.

PrimetNetEncoder Properties errors

I installed this last night in a crisis because the latest HDHR Firmware broke SageDCT last night.

There are a couple of lines that I had to change beyond the tuner.id=

For tuner1 and tuner2, I had to update the ports and transcoder ports in order to get those tuners working. I assume that this is correct:

OOB Config
tuner1.port=5001
tuner1.transcoder.port=7001

tuner2.port=5002
tuner2.transcoder.port=7002

Modified Config
tuner1.port=7001
tuner1.transcoder.port=5010

tuner2.port=7002
tuner2.transcoder.port=5020

Maybe you should post in the SAGEDCT thread what problems you had and how the firmware broke SAGEDCT. Might help other users.

Is the HDHR firmware upgrade ever forcibly applied, or does it always prompt a user?

Everything is optional there is a prompt if an upgrade is available that is strictly up to you ... but with the new changes etc... and the new soon to be released DVR software it is prudent to upgrade if you plan on using the new DVR etc...

Also it would be nice if it was posted exactly what was happening in SAGEDCT.... with the new firmware I am sure Andy can fix it.

Yeah, I did see that the same thing was already reported, but will add a "me 2". I thought I had scoured this thread before posting this, but obviously in the panic of all the sudden no tuners, I must have missed that post.

I'm curious if anyone is actually using this feature regularly and if so, what their system is. I tried it for a while on my AMD A10-A6800K based server and the 3 tuners from the Prime if all recording give the quad core quite a workout.

I've since turned the transcoding off and went back to running SJQ at night to do Handbrake conversions.
