You can enter any of the formats specified here: https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl#format-selection

I'm not very familiar with 4K but maybe you can get it using the "height" and/or "width" parameters?

Can I use the v9 desktop client with a v6.x server using the above method?

No. The server and client must be running the same major version (9).

Recently when accessing the "What's New" section in the YouTube plugin, I'll sometimes get multiple entries for the same [old] video (see screenshot). This doesn't always happen and doesn't seem to be tied to a specific YouTube channel. When it does happen, the videos listed are unwatched and are usually quite old (in this case, from three years ago). This only affects the "What's New" section. If I access the YouTube channel directly (in this case, DNews), I do not see the duplicate videos.

My retrieval and sort options for "What's New" are:
When Listing Videos: Date
Group What's New by Channel: Enabled

Let me know if you need any additional info.

favorite channels attributes
After using this marvelous plugin for some time I realized that I'm watching some favorite channels more often than others. To reflect this characteristic it would be nice to be able to flag a favorite channel to be considered for the "What's New" section or not.

A second attribute I suggest to be considered is to be able to ignore watched videos when browsing favorite channels. Currently if "Maximum Items to fetch" is set to 50 and you have a favorite channel with 200 videos you won't be able to browse video 51 to 200.

Where is the Options Menu for YouTube (2015)?
I don't see any way to change options using this plugin on V9. Only Close, Disable and Uninstall.

Just hit <ctrl>+o oder the option button on remote when YouTube plugin is on the screen.

I may have found the source of this error. Try this:
- Stop SageTV.
- Go to the JARs directory and rename YouTube.jar to something else.
- Unzip this YouTube.jar
- Restart SageTV

Something "strange" is going on...

I was never able to get the recording feature of this plugin to work (tried on two separate SageTV installations). All settings were set and appeared as though they should work, but nothing ever recorded automatically. I figured it was something I wasn't doing right and it was a feature I could live without so never mentioned it.

This morning when I replaced the youtube.jar file I noticed my SageTV machine downloading a bunch of stuff which turned out to be YouTube videos. I also noticed my wiz.bin file grow from 74.6 MB to 1.22 GB (yes, that is gigabytes) within two hours. I went into the YouTube plugin Recording Options and saw new entries for "Edit Recording Queue" and "Purge the Recording Queue" which I had never seen before. There were just under 800 queued items!

I shut down SageTV and copied both my wiz.bak and wiz.bin files off the machine and started SageTV back up again, cleared the YouTube recording queue, shut SageTV down again, started it back up and my wiz.bin was back to 74.6 MB. The YouTube recording queue started climbing in number again...

I used wnjj's Wiz2sql tool to convert my wiz.bak and wiz.bin files (the ones I pulled off the machine before) to SQL to see if I could figure out what was causing the huge difference in file sizes and I found over 400,000 lines like the following in the 1.22 GB wiz.bin file that were not in the wiz.bak file:

In the time that it's taken me to write this post, my wiz.bin file has grown from 74.6 MB to 187 MB and my recording queue has grown from 0 to 302. Any help/insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

I used wnjj's Wiz2sql tool to convert my wiz.bak and wiz.bin files (the ones I pulled off the machine before) to SQL to see if I could figure out what was causing the huge difference in file sizes and I found over 400,000 lines like the following in the 1.22 GB wiz.bin file that were not in the wiz.bak file:

In the time that it's taken me to write this post, my wiz.bin file has grown from 74.6 MB to 187 MB and my recording queue has grown from 0 to 302. Any help/insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
The new jar fixed a bug that prevented things from being recorded. Now that the bug is fixed, all of the videos you tried to record are actually being recorded. You may also have a lot of favorites set to automatically record.

I'd check the Favorite Options and set them to only record from today onwards.

The wiz.bin will shrink after the recordings are done.

Thanks for the help. I set the favorites to record from today onwards as suggested and that seems to have resolved the recording/ballooning wiz.bin. Will post back if I notice any duplicate videos in the What's New section.

Great. It stores information about queued videos in the wiz.bin. More queued recordings = a bigger wiz.bin.

I'll see if I can work on the other suggestions in this thread. If not, I'll publish this jar in a new release.

The plugin only recorded one new YouTube video since this morning and the queue is currently showing as clear, but my wiz.bin is currently 114 MB growing from 74.7 MB and Sage has only been running for about 4 hours or so.

I do have 18 YouTube favorites, but as mentioned above, only one new video since Sage started (and by extension, only one video was ever queued). Is the wiz.bin supposed to decrease in size after the recordings are complete or after Sage exits? Does the wiz.bin grow when it's searching for things to download (even if there is nothing to be queued to download)?

One other thing is that recordings don't appear to be deleted when Sage exits even if the option "Delete Temporary Files" is set to "When Sage Exits" under the "Temporary Files Options" menu. The downloaded files just sit in the recording directory, whether they're watched or not, and persist through Sage restarts.
