Might be required though. I assumed client was nearly stand alone. I'll have to try a test server and see if it works.
You have to update the server if you want to connect a SageClient to it. I understand your worry about crashing the "production" machine but in my experience the new Sage.jar is very stable. I've been running it for a while

If you backup the wix.bin, wiz.bak, and sage.properties you can always go back to the Sage 7 .jar.

Everything in Sage 9 is backwards compatible with Sage 7. What types of interaction with the core are your referring to?

What version of Java do you have installed? I ran into this issue, and updating Java solved the problem. See my posts earlier in this thread.

I'll see if I can give this a try tonight. Out of curiosity I believe HTTPS was what was missing from version 7 so version 9 must have that for this to work does that mean it also reports a different browser type? I know the old browser was causing PlayON to think SAGE wasn't capable of HD playback.

It supports https file transfers but I do not know about other things. For example, I had to put special code in the plugin to use http instead of https when getting thumbnails because the https requests were failing.

Thank you! You've made it very easy for Windows (once I remembered to delete the original lucerne-core...jar that is!). All works well and I find it quicker starting - haven't explored much yet but did want to say thanks.

Out of curiosity, are you using the default STV?

Yes, always have. I've tried many of the others but they were never quite "done". Always some loose ends that I didn't like. My strategy has been to stick with the official STV and modify it to suit my needs.

The new sage jar DOES work with Gemstone. But not at first. After starting the sage service it only got the default menus and everything was empty such as NO plugins available and basicly every menu was blank. But after restarting the whole computer everything was back and just had to activate Gemstone. All is working and Youtube videos now don't need to be downloaded first. I was actually hoping that the MOVIE TRAILER PLUGIN would also work since it now is able to use HTTPS but I guess that plugin is still using the old YouTube api so no workie. Any chance this could be added as a feature of the new YouTube plugin?
Thanks for all your hard work tmiranda! You Rock!

Thank you. I wil work on updating the movie trailer plugin once I finish getting the recording working in the YouTube plugin. My priority list is:

1. Add support for recording videos and optionally importing them into Sage as Videos or recorded TV. (I have a lot of the back end functionality working already. Am currently working on the UI.)

2 Add support for automatically recording new videos on Favorite channels.

3. Movie Trailer support. Right now I am leaning towards updating the existing movie trailer plugin rather than make this functionality part of the YouTube plugin.

If more people want #3 than #2 I will swap priorities. Feedback welcome.

I've upgraded to Sage V9 by replacing the 2 jar files but I can't seem to get progressive streaming to work. I edited sage.properties to remove the "download before playing" entry. I'm using the default STV and Java 7. This is on a windows 7 installation. Any suggestions?

If you delete the property it will automatically default back to "download before playing". The correct way to change that is by going to the YouTube menu then bringing up the options menu (by pressing ESC on keyboard or Options button on the remote) and change the setting in there.

Great!

Generally speaking, you should avoid editing the properties file. Always use the UI to make changes unless there is no other way

Gemstone updated for me and it appears all I had to do after replacing JARs was enable gemstone instead of default STV.

Progressive playback works for me!

Unhappy Problem using v9 JAR file

Must be doing something wrong but i can't get the v9 sage.jar to work.

Here's what I've done:
Installed the YouTube fix (thanks tmiranda!)
Didn't work because I was still on Java v6
Upgraded to Java v7 (had to reboot before Sage would see it)
YouTube works, yea!
...but I have to download the files, want streaming, need v9 jars.

Downloaded the lucene and sage v9 jars.
Forgot to stop the service; put lucene in JARS directory with sage.jar.
Realized I put sage.jar in wrong directory and needed to stop Sage.
Stopped Sage, renamed sage.jar to sage.jar.old
Moved v9 sage.jar from JARS to install directory.
Restarted Sage.

When I try to run the client on the server, it stops at object backup initializing.
Service doesn't respond.
Have to disable the service, reboot, try again.

I can restart v7 sage if I use the v7 jar. The wiz.bin doesn't seem to get upgraded to the new format, because I don't need to replace it, although I have done so, thinking it might be corrupted. [I did see 3 corrupted wiz.bins at some point, and deleted them.]

Running on Windows 7 Home 64-bit. Thanks for any helpful tips...

Too many moving parts. I'd do the following:

- Stop sage
- Make sure you are using the v7 Sage.jar.
- Remove all of the old Sage.jar files.
- Make sure you don't have any version of Sage.jar in the JARs folder.
- Restart and make sure everything works as it should. (Look in the log file. One of the first lines will tell you the jar version you are running.)
- Redownload the lucene-core and new Sage.jar file.
-Stop Sage and follow the instructions in the original post.

So basically go back to square 1 and start again.
