Had two recordings kick off at 9PM tonight. Halt detected on both. Both lost first 75-80 seconds. One has -1.ts and -2.ts files & other has -1.ts file. Neither have -0.ts files

All relevent logs attached. Appears to have triggered new opendct log when issue occurred.

You found an old bug in the old FFmpeg processor. Surprisingly I made no changes to that part at all. I know what the problem is and will have a new release that fixes it today.

OpenDCT 0.4.35-Beta

Fixed a rare null pointer exception in the FFmpeg processor.

This also marks the end of new features for 0.4. I am now just focused on bug fixes for this version.

I've done a clean install of the 0.4.35 update. I'll post results of recordings I've got scheduled for the afternoon in a few hours.

OK. I've thrown the same scenarios at it that caused all the issues yesterday and I can't break it.

As an added bonus, It seems a bit more responsive than the older 4.28 version as well.

Thanks!!!

Good to hear. I'm trying my best to keep things from getting slow as features are added. I know that sometimes things can't be avoided, but it's one of my peeves.

I have some bad news here. I can't figure out a way to actually mux the text captions as subtitles into the MPEG-TS or MPEG-PS stream and actually have subtitles in the stream. FFmpeg wants to convert them into dvbsub which would be fine except that it doesn't actually render the font to a bitmap so the resulting file doesn't actually have any subtitles in it. The most accurate conversion would be to DVB teletext, but FFmpeg apparently has a hard enough time even extracting teletext, so who knows when it will be able to mux it.

The only container that works with straight text every time that I've tested is .mp4, but I don't think that's going in the right direction compatibility-wise.

It gets worse. While SageTV will allow you to enable subtitles on live recordings if a .srt file is present, it will not check if that file is growing and display the new subtitles as it grows, so the external file is not an option either without updates to how SageTV handles them. Also the external file would not be an option for people using upload ID.

Is this because of the old version of FFMPEG? I started cross converting a couple weeks ago, but have not had time to work on this project. I need to re-download now that the repo has the latest version. If this is really what is killing it though, I can try to get back on it (not this weekend probably though... Maybe.)

If you're talking about FFmpeg on the SageTV side of things, I don't know. After I posted, I was thinking about how exactly how SageTV reads the .srt files and then it occurred to me that addressing this might involve changing some native code such as FFmpeg, but I haven't taken a very close look yet.

It should be noted that if you restart playback, the updated .srt file will be used up to the last thing that was written since playback was restarted, so .srt files would be fine for anything that isn't being watched live. In fact I'm surprised we don't have a plugin for CCExtractor that works similar to Comskip. VLC is the only free decoder that I know of that will actually display closed captions, so extracting them into .srt files should improve compatibility and widen the video decoder options for the people who need it.

Updated to 0.4.35 beta.

Homerun Prime with Cable card works fine.

Tried to setup a regular HDHR that is getting digital cable. Sage is not able to get a signal from it. Do I need to redo any discover?

Ok, I am now on 0.4.35 beta! I had to delete my OpenDCT properties file to get it to work. I have a strange issue now though. I have to have the OpenDCT Console open for everything to work. The moment I close it, streaming stops. Did I miss something, I didn't have this issue before. I have not rebooted since updating.

Thanks,

-Travis

Did you make sure that after Installing the SageTV Opendct service is running?

That was it, I hadn't noticed that I either forgot to restart it or that it bombed out and needed to be restarted. Appreciate the help.

Curious if anyone is using SageTV v9 with OpenDCT and a bunch of HD300 extenders yet? I was thinking about moving to v9 but v7 is working good right now. And for those of you that are developers, which platform as testers would you we rather be on? I don't run a test environment so everything I do is on production.

Thanks,

-Travis

I have been running OpenDCT for several weeks now on two servers, V7 (main) and V9 (experimental). I have six HD300s currently attached, 3-4 of which are used daily. I watch at least a couple of shows a week on the V9 server just to check things out. I have tried to keep up with the latest version of OpenDCT and the JAR and EXE files. Everything appears to be working very well on both systems.

I have noticed two isolated problems on certain channels, but I am not sure if they can be attributed to OpenDCT. First of all, for some reason, the local CBS affiliate channel cannot be viewed on the V7 server (with OpenDCT), but it can on the V9 server. I have ignored this problem by mapping this channel exclusively to the ATSC tuner card. Second, there are very infrequent brief (ms) audio drop-outs that occur sometimes, but only on certain channels. Other channels have no noticeable audio glitches and all the video in both cases appears to be glitch-free.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the issue here.

With Sage 9 (clean install) on Win 10 as a server, the recordings I have from my OTA tuners AND RECORDINGS FROM MY HDHRPrime all contain the Closed Captions. They all show up when I select CC1 on my HDx00 extenders.

Isn't the issue a matter of finding a decoder/filter that can be selected in Detailed Setup on servers and clients that can properly expose/display the CC data on PCs.

There are no more extenders available to purchase so for any new users coming in and want to use SAGETV the open source SageTV does not Include the Sage Decoder and that is the only one that works with MPEG2 for CC as far as H.264 no CC in SageTV at all... SageTV never natively supported H.264 at all. Also there is no CC support in the MiniClient. Comcast in my area has almost completed the conversion to H.264 so I have mostly lost CC.

I do understand all you've said. Just unclear on one thing....

Is the CC data not embedded in the recording???

Or is it that there isn't a way to expose it. The Sage 9 I've installed (clean install - not over Sage 7) is Open Source and the CC data is getting included in all my recordings. Don't yet have H264 from comcast though.

You have them on the extenders but not on the the PC SageTVClient open source or the Android MiniClient. They are in the recordings but SageTV has no way of exposing them like you stated. I have tried extracting them but SageTV does not process them correctly.
