epg blank vs. no data

with V9, i occasionally see nothing when i go out beyond the point where epg data exists.

usually it shows 'no data' and there is no problem.
occasionally, there is nothing at all there and when i browse to that on my hd300, it locks up and i have to power up/down.

When it is in the process of doing an EPG update, there may end up being holes in the actual guide data; it fills all of these when the update is done.

The way it works is when it adds new Airings to the database (which correspond to individual cells in the EPG), it will remove any existing Airings that it overlaps with so that the data is always clean. Then when it is done with the EPG update, it will go through and find all the 'holes' in the data and fill it with 'No Data' Airing objects. Lastly, it will then ensure that any of the 'No Data' Airing within the 14 day range (and going back a day or two) are no longer than 2 hours in length. There's also other cleanup logic to prevent this all from building up over time.

thanks. i don't think i ever ran into this in years of using sagetv up through v7 but now i see it a couple of times a week. i guess i should force an update early some morning so it is never doing an update during prime time

As I recall the EPG service "checks in" every 4 hours or so. Which makes dodging an EPG update during Prime Time more than a bit dodgy.

It only updates each lineup every 24 hours but if like me you have multiple lineups then it will update every 24 hours for each lineup. Whenever that lineup is changed is when it will update in 24 hours. So update by disabling and then enabling a channel on each tuner after midnight and you will have all of your updates after midnight.

or you could set up a scheduled task bat file if you have the WebUI installed and have Gnuwin32

Code:
wget.exe http://userid:password@webui-url:port/sage/GlobalCommand?command=ForceEpgUpdate
That way you can control what time of day the EPG runs as long as you do not change channel enable/disable status
