Character encoding

Hi,

some channels contain weird charaters in der name. These character are shown differently on any client (pc, smartphone, firetv, etc.). Is there a way to get them shown in the same way? Maybe by specifying an encoding? Or can I change the channel name to remove this characters?

Ken

The channel name is defined by the EPG service - it sounds like it is more likely a relatively minor bug in the API that returns the channel name that is not truly aware of the special characters. Submit a bug in the issue tracker at https://github.com/google/sagetv/issues with some example channels, and it can be looked at.

And be sure to specify if you're using SchedulesDirect or not.

It is odd that the characters are rendering differently on various platforms...are you using the SageTV MiniClient on all of them? Because the server renders the text for that. I'd be curious to see screenshots of what you're seeing on the different platforms.

Like to bring this up, again. Looking at the adapter0-DVB-C.frq, I find nice entries like this:

Code:
CH:22 onid:41985 tsid:1101 sid:28113 frq:346000000 rate:6900 mod:11 ctrl:1 #:SWR-Fernsehen-BW
and I find weired entries like this:

Code:
CH:102 onid:133 tsid:3 sid:221 frq:386000000 rate:6900 mod:11 ctrl:3 #:Sky-<0x86>Sport<0x87>-<0x86>1<0x87>
It's always hex code 0x86 and 0x87, which is inserted.

I tried to take a look at the code but coudn't find where this file is created, ad hoc. Currently, I do not have much time for digging. May be, you can give me a hint, where this characters may come from or tell me, in which file to look for.

I don't know much about Unicode, but it's interesting that Unicode characters 86 and 87 mean start of selected area and end of selected area, respectively. They have funny symbols that resemble a flowery cross and a double flowery cross.

In ASCII, 86 and 87 men V and W.

I can't find anything in the sagetv code that alters that channel name, aside from replacing spaces with hyphens. I wonder if this is somehow coming from the stream on the scan?
