ExoPlayer works... and I used it for a full week... the Seeking is annoying, but things generally still work. I wouldn't enable auto-comskip on exoplayer... but a typical ExoPlayer session is like this...

Start watching, get to commercial, I skip forward once to skip the commercial
ExoPlayer starts playing at the right spot, but the time bar "loses" the information about where i am at, and then resets the timebar back to original position., as if I never skipped.
Video keeps playing correctly
I hit the next commercial and skip forward, and it thinks I'm way back in time, so then I skip past the next commercial block, and the video plays correctly.
Timebar is stil messed up

This is frustrating... but, you can work around... and I did for a week, and then I threw in the towel this weekend, and switched back to IJK.

Sadly, there is no ETA on when/if this would ever be fixed in ExoPlayer. Fixing it requires someone with more media skills than I'm willing to learn at this point. I woud love it someone else took a stab at fixing it, though.

ExoPlayer is rock solid with mp4/mkv files... it's just that will TS files, it's problematic. From what I can tell... ExoPlayer knows that TS files are not seekeable (sagetv does it, but it's done on the server), and so, when you "seek" in ExoPlayer in a TS file, it resets the time bar to 0. I've tried doing some "hacks" in there to "remember" but it's like whack-a-mole.

Unfortunately, ExoPlayer seems to have more general playback problems (stuttering with no sound) with the default MPEG2-PS recordings Sage creates for OTA ATSC.

Would it be useful for me to provide some short samples?

Samples... plus hardware that is being used... no sound for exoplayer would seem to suggest that the device can't hardware decode the audio.

Hardware is the Shield TV which should not be decoding the audio. Here are two short samples, 1080i and 720P, both OTA MPEG2-PS recordings made in Sage: https://1drv.ms/f/s!ApjZ0ZY44Zt6abxSV4J2GsruU1U

FWIW my shield can't play back OTA mpeg 2 files either using exoplayer.

Everything else works fine.
