New to SageTV - a couple of questions

Hey everyone,

I'm considering purchasing SageTV for the purpose of setting up a DVR. I've heard great things about the program, but there are a few things that stand in my way.

First of all, I am Canadian, and I do want to be able to pull TV listings off the internet with the SageTV. The SageTV site says that it only supports internet listings in the US, however I have been hearing some things around here that it is supported. Is it true that the newest version of SageTV does support Canadian listings?

Also, I'm looking into which TV Tuner to purchase. My situation is a bit unique. I have a relatively new laptop that I will be using for SageTV. Thus, I cannot install a PCI tuner. So, I'm looking at USB/USB2.0 models. I've also heard that it's important to get one with hardware encoding, because it improves the picture quality & doesn't slow down your computer. However, it looks like SageTV only supports 1 TV Tuner that is USB & Hardware encoding. I'm wondering if anyone has a list of ones that actually work with SageTV, whether they are supported or not.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have not seen anything about free EPG data for canada yet. However, you can use XMLTV to obtain listings. See the Roll Call for Canadians - Guide listings for Canada thread for details.

See the PVR-250 or PVR-USB2 ? thread for a little info about the USB tuner.

Free Canadian listings are definitely supported, no need to go the XMLTV route. Please read this post for details.

Cheers
