Android, Mi Box and MPEG Streaming

I got my Mi Box last week and have to say that I'm very impressed. Overall, it's very close to being "the box", but there's one gaping hole that stops me from introducing it into the main room. St-re-am-ing of MPEG/Live TV. Lots of stutters. I am hard-wired at 1gb and have no issues with even an old HD200 on that port. Capture devices are an HDHR Prime and HDHR Connect. Is the issue due to the fact that there's no MPEG hardware decoder/accelerator in the Mi Box?

Is there anything that can be done to fix this in the software?

I'm sure that this isn't the first time that it's been discussed but searched and couldn't find anything relevant.

People have other issues with mpeg2 video, but, I haven't seen much around stuttering. Is it only for LIveTV, or does it do the same on recorded tv as well?

The MiniClient has 2 players... IJK and EXO have you played with both?

LiveTV is something I haven't used since before I swtiched to SageTV, so I'll be honest and say that I've never tested anything around LiveTV, myself. Also all my recordings are h264 and I replaced all 3 of my HD300s with the NVidia Shield and MiBoxes shortly after I reated this client.

Ok, so after digging some more, it seems to be limited to live TV and coming from my HDHR Prime only and it performs the same with both players. The OTA signal that is fed directly from HDHR Connect to Sage plays live TV flawlessly. Audio does not skip but there's a short pause in the video about every 5-10 seconds. Sounds like I might have to dig into my OpenDCT configuration to see what's going on.

What CPU is in your server? I have loved how quick players start and seek since starting transcoding my recordings to 720p h.264 in openDCT.

That might be able to keep up with a couple streams of the untrafast720p preset. You can always enable it one tuner at a time and see how it fares, cpu wise, and determine if all of them transcoding is going to be too close to saturating the cpu or not.

Well, tried transcoding and didn't fly even for 1 tuner. This is a Hyper-V server which definitely isnt' tailored for 1 system using that much processor. Not a huge deal as the flexibility it gives me with my other servers (plex, ombi, wordpress, etc) makes the trade-offs worth it.

I do also have the ability to watch live tv via Plex on the Mi Box (although the lack of a grid guide does make that challenging).

I'll keep messing around with OpenDCT and pour through that thread for ideas.

Well, doubling the cores to 8 on the Sage server makes it so I can transcode all 3 streams to ultrafast720p. I'll give this a shot for a while and see what happens.

Thanks for the help Fuzzy!
