TechTV's TSS tuesday Tivo-like software review

On tuesday of next week TechTV's "The Screen Savers" is going to be doing a review of tivo-like software for computers. I just watched the friday show and all they mentioned for the upcoming review were Snapstream and Freevivo. I feel we should let them(TSS) know the value of SageTV, with a user email campaign.

Snapstream is only in the very early alpha stages of hardware mpeg encoder card support, yet SageTV is already a viable option. I feel Sage has put Snapstream to shame, and I want others to know of this great product. I have been toying with asking Jeff or Dan if we should launch a campaign for a while. The upcoming TSS segment has made it clear to me that NOW is the time. What do you all think?

I've already sent them a few emails, and some others have too (There's a thread in our private forums about this exact thing).

Please send them more!!!! Apparently they didn't hear that last bunch.

There's also message boards they have. Another good place to give them some opinions.

I have just placed a post http://cgi.techtv.com/messageboards?...ead_id=1095040 on the TSS message board. I sent them an email earlier during the show. I highly encourage everyone to do the same thing. I believe SageTV is so much better than Snapstream, it's pathetic. I will be highly dissappointed if TSS doesn't review SageTV as well. Please everybody, lets show TSS how good Sage is and how loyal it's users are.

I sent an email to Leo Laporte yesterday and he answered today thanking me and asking one of the TSS to get a copy of SageTV.

Hope they include it in their review !

I hope they have or can get the PRV250/350 card in time as well. I really want to see Sage get some well deserved publicity.

Actually SHS, if it's not too much trouble I'd like to see that. I somehow missed it, maybe it was before I got TechTV.
Maybe it would help us provide usefull feedback for the upcoming review(Positive Thinking).

Wow that was definitely before my cable provider added TechTV. OK I know nothing about the PVR-1, I came in at the PVR250. I'm not sure but aren't there some cables missing. I can't tell from that angle. But if that Sony is anything like mine, they don't have any AV patch cables hooked up.

If I'm wrong I blame it on my sleepy eyes. Thats as good an excuse as any.

This is just a guess not knowing the Hauppauge PVR's and given the darkness of the video. But my guess would be they used the wrong software for the capture as it doesn't look hauppauges softtware.

But im probably wrong on that as i said just a guess.

Well your half rigth Crazedz but the software dose come with the Classic Hauppauge WinTV-PVR it called WinTVCap after all the Classic PVR did do AVI and REALtime Hardware MPEG encoding so as you can see Leo and Patrick goof it up rigth from the get go they never even load the rigth application which should have been WinTV2000 so you see they didn't even know what there doing in first place my guest is there didn't see in action the way it should have been done in the first place.

Yeah that's kinda what i thought.

As far as i have seen in the past every Hauppauge Tuner card (I got an older non hardware wintv tuner) has used the Wintv software. But older non hardware PVR cards could work with just about any software but the hardware tuners really don't work with software outside of their own unless a 3rd party takes the pains (Fry) to do so so it was kind of a tip off when i didn't see the wintv app.

But admitidly i haven't used a hauppauge hardware tuner so i wasn't sure what all the software was that came with it i just knew that the one they used sure didn't look like something from hauppauge.

At any rate i got TSS "Saged" so i can watch that eppisode and see what they got to show as far as the software. Im betting that Sage will if they show it be the best of the bunch hands down.

Oh and *Had to throw that in*

It seems as if the review for SageTV will be done some time in the future. Pat and Leo seemed to indicate that at the end of their review of Snapstream. Also, from their website:

Quote:
Leo and I are often asked about software alternatives to TiVo and ReplayTV. We found one called SnapStream Personal Video Station 3. It's cheap; $49.99 without a monthly subscription fee. (Just this morning a viewer keyed us into another Windows software PVR, Frey Technologies SageTV we'll look at that soon.)
And

Quote:
There was only one nagging thing that annoyed me in PVS 3. There's no way to type in the name of a show or actor to search the listing in the UI (the remote control) mode. You must enter the Web mode (and grab a keyboard) to do so. SnapStream hopes to add a keyboard function (similar, we assume, to the on screen keyboard the employed in SageTV after version 3 gets released.
