FFDSHOW Questions
Hi all,
Well I have my system starting to come together. Well at least, I have two tuners running successfully with sage and it's working well. Unfortunately the wife is not so impressed with the picture quality from the Hauppage Tuners. Analog video after digital cable. This will be corrected once my USB UART and a couple of IR Bugs turn up. In the meantime I'm working on getting FFDShow working to clean up the analog signals a bit. I have it installed but it presents in Sage as "FFDShow MPEG 4 decoder" and once selected Sage throws up an error about a lack of MPEG2 decoder. I've tried setting FFDShow to only support RAW and not present any other decoders. I'm at a loss as to how to get it to work. Any tricks? Hints? I've read a bunch of notes aout it, but nothing I've come accross mentions my problem.. Other codecs installed include Intervideo regular and non-css versions. |

Ok, I got a little further but now I'm really stuck..
Finally got the VMR running (Launched Primary.exe in my WinTV folder and fiddled with it). Now when I pick the FFDSHOW MPEG4 decoder It will display one frame with ahistogram mapped onto it, and that's it. I have tried with no filters picked and lots of them selected, no difference.. No crash, I can reset it and go pack and it all works fine. 3d Acelleration is on, VMR is running. |

What decoder is ffdshow using? Whichever it is needs to have hardware acceleration turned off and additional filters enabled. Elecard is ready to go out of the box. Never got it working with the Hauppauge Intervideo decoder myself.

Well after a boatload of pain I got it up and working.
Here's what I did, though I'm not sure if all these steps are truely required:- 1. Ran the primary application in the Win TV Dir, picked the 2nd from the top option, not the top one (I forget, and I'm at work right now) 2. Picked VMR, and FFDSHOW as my Video Decompressor. 3. There were multiple settings files in my FFDSHOW Program group. Turns out that the RAW settings file is the one that controls the plug inside Sage. Me Dumb.. took a while to figure that out. 4. I turned off all the options and started working my way up. For some reason my dscaler option already had the histogram.dll selected. Deselecting this and everything ran peachy. The only problem is it's a MASSIVE CPU hog on my Athlon XP 2800+. If it trips up it simply freezes the video which is a PITA (Low WAF), but it doesn't lock sage. A quick play with the settings in ffdshow and a reload player in sage fixes it. That brings the saga of getting it to run to a close. Cue new thread about WTF can I do with it!! ;-) |
