MediaMVP Choppy?
I just picked up a media mvp. It looks cool for what it does but the video play back becomes super choppy when sage is running on the server?
The server is a Intel Celeron 1.7Ghz with 512 MB of ram, and a 120 GB hard drive. The media mvp is networked with a 100Mbps however I do notice that the mvp is not full duplex? (Is there any way of making it full duplex?) I have tried playback of a 5.6 GB 1 hour recorded show and a 2.7 GB 1 hour recorded show. Both of which were not watchable do to the choppiness. Sage client on my p4 laptop works fine over 54Mbps wireless streaming 5.6GB mpegs? Any suggestions? TIA |

go to shs's site and look for MVP network fix or something like that. Its a reg "hack" to speed you up. Also, is your version of MVP a D3? If so, look for D3 issues. They have a faulty chip that requires an exchange from hauppauge.

Thanks! I went to his site, I couldn't find a reg hack or anything but found some posts about setting my PVR's nic to 100 half instead of 100 full as it would cause colliisions and that seemed to solve all the choppiness. There is still a few faint ones with a 5.6GB file but I'm sure that will be solved if I throw in another nic into the pvr and run a crossover cable to the mvp. (as suggested by shs's site)
One thing I did notice about playback through the MVP is all stuttering is solved. I have been fighting and thought I would just have to live with the stuttering of playback via sage since 1.4. I noticed it the most during fast motion (IE hockey games) or scrolling text on the screens (IE weather warnings) but, ALL OF THOSE PROBLEMS ARE GONE WHEN PLAYING THROUGH THE MVP!!! That is amazing and makes me unbelievably happy!!! Now I wonder if Sage releases a client for the MVP will it go back to being choppy? Or will it be smooth?? |

From your remark about collisions, sounds like you're using a 10/100 Hub instead of a switch. If you were to put a switch in place of your hub, collisions would be gone, and the network should be a bit faster.
