Sporadic recordings with bad audio

Was wondering if anyone has encountered before or have any thoughts of what might be happening.

Sage on:
Windows 10 Pro
Hauppauge HVR-1600

Sporadically getting recordings where the audio is messed up. Very high pitched audio instead normal talking.

Have not figured out what might be causing it, or what I might need to do about it (if anything).

Looking for some thoughts/suggestions

I've had issues with my HDPVR where the audio is not present either for some or all of the recording. It usually starts with a brief burst of static at the beginning of the recording if I hear anything at all. Sometimes it comes back mid-recording, and other times it does not.

Happens rarely, but when it does, it always seems to be for a program my wife wanted to watch

I haven't figured out a solution, always assumed it was related to the 5.1 optical audio but never wanted to give up and switch to 2 channel.

Yes, same here, always for the wife's shows. That is why she manually records and does it multiple times (if shown multiple times) for an episode, just in case of these glitches or other causes.
