Poor Audio

This is a question from a newbie in this technology so please forgive me asking what may be a stupid question. I'm using SageTV LiveTv and it's great across my wired network to the SageTV Client. I've read that it won't work well across an 11b wireless link so I didn't expect too much when I tried it. However I was surprised to see video quality is still almost perfect but sound is choppy. This disappears if I plug tyhe network back in and also sometimes I get about 30 secs worth of clean sound when the wireless link is first established but then the choppiness comes back.

I realise it's working when in principle it shouldn't, but can anyone explain why only audio is badly affected?

I've tried switching rendering and decoders but it remains the same.

Thanks
