New Win10 Client - No video playback
I have a Intel NUC I wanted to setup as a Sage client. I am using the latest Sage version 9.2.6. I have updated my sage server also. HD video on YouTube works fine and Windows Media player plays .ts files fine but nothing wireless from the Sage Media server. Either Sage Client crashes or I get audio but no video depending on Codec used. I have tried the 64 bit and 32 bit with the same results. I have tried ffmpeg, updated LAV to 7.6.1 and still no luck. I have kept things working 15+ years but have been using HD200 media players till now. Any ideas?

Are you using EVR as the video renderer?

I have not changed anything other than the MPEG2 & MPEG4 playback under Audio & Video. Brand new Win10 installation and Sage TV 9.2.6..

I use VMR9 on most of my Win10 systems, because it works better with the Elecard MPEG-2 Decoder that I use to get closed captions.

I just tried VMR9 and the SagetV Client immediately crashes.

Can you provide your settings under video/audio in detailed setup?
The other thing you might try is the hardware acceleration settings in LAV. For example I need to run DXVA2 (native) to playback m2ts files without stuttering. Finally, you can post your client's log file (sagetvclient_0.txt). |

I think VMR9 vs EVR is dependent on the decoder you're using. But as trk2 said post your settings so we can take a look at them.

EDIT: I should have started with - Make sure the "bitness" of the various components matches. If using the Sage 64 bit client, Java and LAV need to be 64 bit as well
I might suggest setting the audio and video codecs explicitly instead letting them go to default. set the VC-1 to LAV Video. set the MPEG-2 audio to LAV Audio. set the HD audio to LAV audio. I am presuming the HD Audio is turned on (it doesn't show in the picture). It maybe also be helpful to: set Video Renderer to EVR. The Audio Render - you should at least look at what is available. I use 2 Intel NUCs, one for the server and one for a client. It may be that some adjustments will be needed in the LAV filters settings (I think it might be the LAV Video but I will need to look when I get home). Sometimes the default settings are fine and other times they need some tweaking. And there maybe other changes, like using the LAV Splitter instead of the Sage Splitter. But try some of the above before going down that road (I couldn't get MKV files to play if I was using the Sage Splitter)

Google for a tool called Graph Studio. When you render a video file with Graph Studio it will tell you what decoder and renderers are being used. Whatever comes up should be the same defaults that Sage is using.

This shows that the PC I rendered this on would use Microsoft DTV-DVD for the video rendering and AC3 Filter for the audio. Once the graph is built, you can go into the Filters menu and insert different filters (eg. LAV) if you want to test playback when forced through other filters. |

That show is Transport Stream, which is really MPEG2. You have the MPEG2 decoder set to MS DTV-DVD which isn't very good IMO. Change that to LAV Video Decoder and change H.264 to LAV Video Decoder as well.

Agreed! Go with the LAV filters and EVR. Works well for me other than Closed Caption support.
