2 Digital boxes, only 1 PVR-250, remote control help.

I have 2 Comcast Motorola Digital Cable boxes.

I would like to have both of them in my living room with 1 connected to Sage via my PVR-250.

The other just connected to my TV for my brother and others whom I don't want screwing around with my SageTV, hehe.

Problem is how do I control this via my remotes.

I bought a USB-UIRT and have it hooked up and drivers installed, but not currectly using it at all.

I'm afraid I will end up changing both channels on my boxes or someone else will do the same when they are watching live TV (not within Sage) thus screwing up my recoreding.

Anyone got an idea on how I should handle this? I bought a Philips learning remote control too if that matters.

Thanks,
Chris

Do both boxes have the same remote? and respond to the same remote codes?

If so:

Can you switch to a second mode on the remote/box?

If not, what you need to do is cover the sensor on the one you don't want controlled. The easiest way would be to simply place one box and the UIRT out of the way.

Yeah, I can control both boxes with the same remote. I've got two (exact) remotes. Doesn't matter which one I use.

I see no way to switch anything remotes/boxes to alter this.

The box is a DCT2224 Motorola if anyone else has any ideas. The remote is the universal (new) ondemand remote. Not the old comcast remote they used to give out.

you could try the serial plug in but why not just move the cable box for sageTV and the USB UIRT away from the other box and out of the way of the other remote control's view

I'm in the process of doing something similar (except the 2nd cable box is used with another tuner), and I plan on using 2 Xantech mouse emitters, one for each unit. I plan on using black tape to cover the rest of the eyes (I'm too cheap to buy the Xantech eye cover), and I'm hoping that will make it all work. With the amount of power coming off the Uirt, it'll change channels with the box behind it, reflecting off a wall over 25' away . I just wish there was a way with the Sage IR for that box to hit a exit/clear after it changes channel, to get rid of the cable box OSD, and that it would enter the channels faster, it's REALLY slow...

Well, I just pulled off the battery cover and found a set up jumpers inside there. I guess I'm going to try and call comcast tomorrow and see what they have for a solution since I'm sure other customers have this same issue when they use a TIVO on their system.

I'll post my findings good or bad.

Yeah, just tell them you have a Tivo or they'll get confused
