Moved Sage to new box - cannot setup

I see this message whenever I try to set up the tuner: "Unable to connect to the SageTV Server".
I had it set up on another box but moved the pvr250mce to a dedicated HDPC I just built and added an ehome wonder. Sage recognizes both cards but I can't get programming data. Sage has been deleted off the first box so I don't know what the problem is here. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking some sort of SP2 firewall issue blocking it. If you are running Service Pack 2 for XP then try disabling the built in firewall just to test if that is causing your problem. If it is then you need to create a rule to allow Sage out. It could be something completely different too.

Edit:
I'm thinking it probably isn't SP2's firewall because I think that just blocks things from coming in. Anyways still worth a shot. Or if you have another firewall installed could check that too.

No, the only firewall I have is my router and I know it isn't that as it worked fine on the other box. Thanks for your suggestion.

It still sounds like SageTV can't access the internet, which is what it needs to be able to do to get the programming data & complete the Setup Wizard. It needs to access through port 7760, according to the main SageTV site.

Just to be sure I bypassed the router and went direct to the cable modem. Absolutely nothing to block access. Still singing the same old tune - "Unable to connect to the SageTV Server".

I ran across this in the FAQ:
Quote:
If you are using the SageTVClient on more than one PC and accidentally entered the same license key from another PC you will get an error message - "Unable to connect to the SageTV Server". If you are using the SageTVClient on more than one PC and accidentally entered the same license key from another PC you will get an error message - "Unable to connect to the SageTV Server".
To enter the correct license key, open your SageTV folder, right-click on the SageTVClient.exe file and create a new shortcut. Then right-click on the shortcut and go to Properties. Then enter in the Target line at the end after the quotes a space and then the word REGISTER. The correct entry will look like this: " C:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageTV\SageTVClient.exe" REGISTER. Then you will be prompted to enter the new license key and after your correct license key is accepted, and you can delete the shortcut you just created.
Obviously, I used the same key. However, I deleted the copy of sage on the first box when I moved the pvr card to the new HDPC. I have a hunch this may be the issue though I don't see why unless uninstall failed to remove everything it should have.

EDIT: Well, it suddenly started working. I guess the server was down. DUH.

Yeah, the server being down could do it.

As for that quote from the main page's FAQ, I didn't mention that because it refers to connecting SageTVClient to SageTV on another PC on your network, not connecting SageTV to the EPG server... and yes, I understand those error messages say the same thing, so it would seem to apply here. In fact, I _almost_ replied regarding connecting the client to the server, until I read more carefully.

Anyway, glad it is working.
