DVD play shuts Sage
Hi guys
A strange issue cropped up last night. I popped in a DVD into the drive and selected Play DVD but the only thing that happens is Sage shuts down. It did work once after performing a repair using the Sage install but then didn't work again after filpping back to DVD from TV. This was a rented DVD from Blockbuster. I had the same problem with a ripped DVD , so I just suspected it was a bad rip or something. But now it happened on an original. The same DVD works no problem on my Samsung componen vd player (thank god for the backup) I am using the Nielm STV, Intervideo Non-CSS decoders with ANyDVD runnning. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

I suspect it has to do with your decoders, the NonCSS decoders aren't meant to play DVDs and even though AnyDVD takes care of the CSS, they may not like switching between MPEG and AC3 audio.

Thanks Stranger
I think I'll try the Cyberlink decoders I have with the same DVD. I've been trying to get the Sonic decoders , but they have pulled the trial version 1.5. Does anyone still have the trial version so I can give the Sonic decoders a try before I buy? I hear they are the best. |

Here's the CP trial:
http://trial.cineplayer.com/?from= However it's the full Sonic Cineplaer app (there is no trial for the decoders) and the decoders won't work in Sage unless they are registered/activated. |

Ya thats the one I meant, the whole app. Its no longer available for download, so I was wondering if someone still had it to try. |

Yeah I just saw that, I think there may be a new version coming, MyDVD apparently comes with Cineplayer 2.0.

I'm having the same problem and I use the sonic decoders. I don't consider it a huge issue as I have a full blown home theater. I was just testing to see what it was like.
I get this error in the Sage log: "An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM. Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) occurred at PC=0x748BA6CE Function=[Unknown.] Library=C:\WINDOWS\System32\quartz.dll" I have the latest version of Java. It is the only one installed. Oh well, just posting so that Powerplay knows using the Sonic decoders may not work. Regards, Beau |

More info please Beau
SageTV settings (decoders/renderers) DirectX version Up-to-date drivers Just trying to find anything, the only time I've had trouble with Sonic crashing Sage is when I was screwing with their "Advanced Audio Decoder". |

Under DVD in the detailed settings, I have:
SageTVClient .20 DVD-ROM: Yes DVD Video Renderer: Overlay DVD Video Decoder Filter: Sonic Cinemaster@ DS Video Decoder DXVA mode: A DXVA Deinterlacing: Bob and Weave DVD Audio Decoder Filter: Sonic Cinemaster@ DS Audio Decoder Audio Renderer: Game Theater XP 7.1 DirectX Version 9.0b All drivers are up to date. Timeshifting works as it should, I only have issues trying to play a DVD. I have not touched the Cinemaster applet in control panel or the system tray to adjust anything. Movies tried: johnQ, Lara Croft: Cradle of Life, and Collateral Damage. Menus play just fine, after I hit "play movie" I get about 5 seconds of video and then Sage Client quits to the desktop and leaves me an error log in the Frey dir. Let me know if I can provide any more info for you guys. Once again, I am not worried about the problem, but decided to post here in the hopes of helping someone else. Regards, Beau |

Try changing the DXVA settings to Default, I've had trouble before when setting them to something else, especially when messing with the Deinterlacing settings.

Sorry for the delay in posting a response.
Making the change Stanger suggested did allow me to play JohnQ. I have not had a chance to try any others. So, it looks good from here. Will update it the situation changes.
