IR and Recording Manager

I was thinking that some type of application that took the IR and favourites and EPG guide and made them available to manage externally (through a web page or stand alone app) would be cool.

Something that allowed you to:
> Look at what is planned to be recorded via the TV guide, but via an app rather than TV
> Manage favourites and see when shows are due to be recorded.
> Look at current IR decisions, and override / change
> Manage recordings, set watched, clear watched, etc

At the moment, some of these things are possible, but just hard to do via a TV. (i.e. set watched, clear watched, and scroll through a weeks worth of channels to see what will be recorded by favourites)

Has anyone thought about this at all?
Any suggestions / solutions to start creating this?
Are the IR selections and favourite setting available for an external app to pick them up?
